Do phantoms actually burn the block?
Exactly why it is a horrible implementation to fix one very specific problem that people raged about. I also play engineer and was trying to discuss it in a reasonable fashion on their forums which was a mistake on my part, what I learned is that people who don’t play mesmer have no idea how bad this change actually is. On top of it countering our offense, it also counters our defense. For people with iPersona the defense portion is a little less steep since they can still distortion or distract, but without that trait they have rendered you to have no ability to defend yourself. Against guards and thiefs the problem is most pronounced since they can blind or block you into oblivion.
edit: in 1v1 situations mesmer is still in a decent spot, but any more than that and you are really really sunk against players that know how to abuse los and all the other ways to stop us from using our class mechanic.

Sorry but it’s you who abused no-los for phantasms. LOS is part of skillful gameplay via use of environment. That’s a valid tactic and why you should not suffer from it like every other class?
I am not talking about LOS. Lots of threads already about that.
Im talking about how are phantoms are not created if our target has a block up. Does the block get used when our phantom goes on cd without it appearing
Yeah you clearly abused that, Ishbaal! How dare you? :P

I think you misinterpreted my post, but to clear things up a little no I did not abuse los for castle siege breaking because I don’t zerg keeps in wvw. Now what I am talking specifically about is not only with this change do you not hit the player (as you shouldn’t hit them under the effects of one of those statuses) but you also lose access to your ability to defend yourself to. To put it in perspective, a guardian that gets blinded, blocked, or dodged can still block themselves correct? They can still use their shouts correct? So they do not lose their defensive ability because of another player who uses their defensive ability, as it stands now a build that relies on phantasm creation to do their damage also loses out in their ability to defend themselves. Shatter builds remain largely untouched because of using ipersona.
edit- the ways in which a player can negate your ability to summon phantams are as follows:LoS
Block
Blind
Dodge
Invuln frames
These things should all prevent a player from taking damage there is no issue there it is the part that not only does it rob a phantasm build of their damage but also their ability to defend themselves properly, no other class has this limitation.

Ishbaal the answer is no the block does not get used. It simply denies phantasm creation, of course you still have the option of using a auto attack to remove the block first in case of aegis, any other type of block you simply have to wait it out.
So why is mesmer the only class that has this problem? They either did not think this change through or it is a bug. Either way im kinda frustrated.
