Q:

I just finished watching the PoI that showcased the chronomancer, and I’m absolutely loving all the new mechanics and skills. I was thinking of a cool combo to use with Continuum shift, and my favorite one involves the new grandmaster Chronophantasm, which restores your phantasms whenever you shatter them.

The combo goes like this:

  1. Summon 3 phantasms
  2. Continuum Split – Create restore point and get your phantasms back
  3. Mind Wreck + Tides of Time
  4. Continuum Shift – Go back to restore point and regain shattered phantasms
  5. Mind Wreck + Tides of Time

My concern, however, is whether or not Continuum Shift will restore summoned illusions or not. If not, then my combo is kind of ruined.

A:

Can’t restore illusions anyway because all illusions are shattered to fuel the skill, so its impossible to start Continuum Shift with any illusions. And if using the traits that give phantasms extra lives or create clones on shatter, they’ll be coming into existence just after the Continuum Shift so they shouldn’t be affected at all.

What I think you can do though is
1. Continuum Shift
2. Summon all your phantasms
3. Whatever filler
4. Restore to previous point(I don’t think this destroys illusions, if it does this doesn’t work)
5. All your illusion summoning skills are now off cd again so you can easily reset phantasms twice(since Signet of the Ether does it once)

Gets even more crazy once you factor in Signet of Ether. Shift>Phantasm>Signet>Same Phantasm>Shift back>Same Phantasm again and your heal is still off cd.

I don’t think it restores illusions. That’d be crazy.

Thanks for the response Necrotize. I didn’t think hard enough about Continuum Split shattering all of your illusions. For some reason I was thinking the Grandmaster would somehow bypass that because they would be restored after a shatter, but your answer makes complete sense.

I love your combo too. Continuum Split/Shift is so interesting, it’s giving me some serious nostalgia about the GW1 mesmer and how it could manipulate skill recharges and doublecast skills with Echo. Mesmer is my least played class, but with Chronomancer that might change.
