I have done my research, but I am a little confused.

I understand the gist of it; keeping up your clones/phantasms, let the better ones get their hits in, use mind wrack to shatter them and cause a lot of damage, etc… Be smart, know when it might be better to keep them up, to let them be shattered, etc, etc…

Someone told me that shattering requires you to be up in melee range, is that true? If so, I am now confused. I was under the assumption that you could use shatter at a range, even if you were using something like a great sword, etc…

So can someone give me a quick run down of a basic dungeon/fractal shatter rotation? Lets assume you’re fighting a boss. Do I really need to be in melee range to use mind wrack? I’m just a little lost as a whole.

Never mind, I think I see why; the skill that makes your self count for shattering. Still, advice for the build in general would be nice.

Many shatter builds include the Illusionary Persona trait, which is 30 deep in Illusions.
To get the max shatter effect, you need to be close to your target. You can shatter from any range though.
On your build, try different ones, find one that suits you. I run Lazy Kai in dungeons most of the time, as long as you have some experience, damage builds will do fine.

If you need distraction, keep the illusions alive, if not or if the mob has AoE, just blow them up. Keep distance if you feel uncomfortable.

I caught that. Thanks! I am having a blast leveling my Mesmer with your guide right now; it was due to my own stupidity that I didn’t see the Persona trait. Thanks!

While I’ll often run Staff/Sword + Pistol, I’ll change to Greatsword/Scepter+Pistol for fights where I want to keep phantasms up.

The Illusionary Duelist is insane, especially if you’ve picked up the Pistol Trait from the Duelling Tree. If I can keep three of them up for an entire fight, I’ll be doing that.

I am happy you like my leveling guide. Got really little direct feedback on it, so I wasn’t sure if people like it. Feel free to leave a comment and bump it so others may see it… ^^
