Thoughts on this. Ive tried it out and im doing massive damage. If you play this right you will survive and do dps like crazy. I swapped from phantasm to this and the crits are great . This build doesn’t work unless u gear for power/prec/crit… u sacrifice toughness big time but u gain 200vit from trait but u gotta stay on your toes for this build. idk give this a try and give me your opinions.

That is a phantasm build. It’s a somewhat poorly optimized phantasm build in my opinion, but it most definitely is one. It’s a decent build though.

Well im basically new… I have had the game for 7 days although im level 77 atm im still a noob xD…. But yeah it is a big change up from GS/S combo I was using…. to amazing damage and good support for my friends.

That is a phantasm build. It’s a somewhat poorly optimized phantasm build in my opinion, but it most definitely is one. It’s a decent build though.

It also seems rather outdated. Like you said, it’s not very optimized. There are shatter traits and phantasm traits that, in my opinion, don’t make a lot of sense being in the same build. First of all, having 10 pts in Illusions is rather useless for a phantasm build, given that Illusionist’s Celerity has been moved to the grandmaster tier. Compounding Power doesn’t apply to phantasms, so it’s not terribly useful either. Those points would be much better spent picking up the 15% illusion damage boost in Inspiration or going into Dueling for Phantasmal Fury. Also, I might pick up Greatsword Training in Domination instead of Mental Torment since it would help with phantasm generation. Finally, I’m slightly skeptical of Deceptive Evasion in a PvE phantasm build. It limits you to having only two phantasms out, which is a substantial DPS loss. Furthermore, a decent mesmer ought to be able to survive in just about any PvE content between dodges (with perma-vigor) and Blurred Frenzy. If the mesmer really needs clones for some reason, both iLeap and Mirror Blade can provide them.

As stated, the build certainly has potential, but there are a few tweaks which could update and optimize it for PvE content.

It’s an old shattasm build.

If you want a full-squish phantasm build (it works better than shatter in PvE, in my opinion), run this

Ignoring the utilities (which should be Feedback + Blink + Situational, technically all three of your utilities are situational, but I usually run Feedback + Blink in most scenario’s), the traits opt for the most damage via Phantasms. This means you can sit back and play with a playstyle even easier than a Warrior while maintaining safety from the distance. I typically start with my sword out and plop a focus phantasm with a focus 4 for reflects, then switch to GS and just sit in GS until I need to swap for more reflects (if needed). If I’m in melee, I’ll do the opposite, starting with GS then switching to Sword and maintaining Sword.

It’s your standard run-of-the-mill Phantasm build that will give you high numbers (at least, for a phantasm) but let you sit out of the fray (in most cases, there ARE times where you need to be in the fray, that’s just dungeons).

I use this build for Fractals, Dungeons (including CoF P1) and open-world PvE (since I’m too lazy to swap to my Shatter build 18 times a day when I swap to Dungeons/Fractals from open-world PvE).

In WvW, you can use this build, but a shatter build is more optimal, both in AoE and in nuke potential.

This was Strife’s old build. He quit before the June 25th patch, and has moved on to other things. The new main dungeon build in those forums is:

I essentially use this when not in a PuG, and think it’s great. I do, however, swap out deceptive evasion for the pistol cooldown on bosses (I find deceptive evasion on trash fights, such as dredge for example, to be very helpful. Not so much on bosses, when I want to do my best to keep 3 phantasms up.). Also, I swap out temporal enchanter for other things depending on the fight.

And to reiterate Esplen, I very rarely don’t have both feedback and blink on my bar for utilities (save for melee only bosses). They are just too good to NOT slot, in my opinion.

I missed out on our flavor of the month for the dungeon builds here! I’ll have to give that one a whirl.

Right now I’m really enjoying a zerker mantra build. It’s similar to the Mantra Nuker, but full zerker gear, GS + S/P, and no shatters.
