Easy legend with shatter mesmer.
Grats man. I tried a few unranked games with a similar build near the start of this season and didn’t really get the hang of that build, but I’ll give this one a try.
Gratz on legend and completing the back piece.
I run power in WvW and tbh you can win vs the average trash running around however you have to be careful while they just rotate and spam skills.
The problems really come for power shatter when you play against anyone who has evolved past a chimp and actually understands the meta classes they’re playing. A half decent thief should always beat you and should shut you down putting in the same effort as you. You’re also playing at the end of the season, the only people between you and legend are either new to PvP, starting late but may be good or pretty much terrible. Most legends and anyone decent barely plays anymore so that might explain why it felt easier.
Also conditions by anyone decent would tear you a new one even with mantra of resolve. I ran a no inspiration Mesmer once…4 extremely long necro bleeds killed me over 15s because mantra of resolve was on cool down cleansing the other 4 conditions. Never again.
There’s a pretty obvious reason.
- Power Rev’s arent as favored in the face of the condi meta, and there’s few truly good revs beside.
- Thief presence has picked up a little, but again there are few truly good thieves about.
- You’re right people have forgotten how to face a shatter mes, but also peoples builds (and focus priority) aren’t necessarily set up to deal with them properly.
- Stealth and target drop has a huge edge again in the minds of players because stealth has been so absent for so long.
- Shatter mes has BOON STRIP. The cornerstone classes of the meta are having a field day living on their stability, protection, and resistance, which you can cut through. Under team focus this is huge.
- Mercenary ammy was the last true bastion of the viable “sustain” classes based on ammy. So targets are ripe for mes burst.
- Probably other stuff
I guess no one knows how to play vs a shatter mesmer anymore. I just got to legend with zerker chrono with allmost 0 effort. From sapphire to legend I have 87 games played and 67 wins. 15 of my losses was in the beginning of the season with power revenant when I grinded achivements for that legendary back piece. So I lost only 5 times with shatter mesmer. wtf. 90% of my games was solo and the rest was duo q.
I´m not even good at rotating so I played 80% of the time with only 2 points and went only where I can outnumber. No much brain power needed for that.
Last season I really struggled to even get out of ruby with only meta builds and switching class in order to have the best possible comp. It was so much harder to get to legend that way.
Or maybe ArenaNet just changed something in the mach making and made it kittened.
If some one wants the build I used, it is in the picture. I only changed daze mantra to condi clear mantra when we did not have ele and they had 3 or more condition classes. If we had ele I changed if they had 4 or 5 condi classes. I had games where I did over 1 mil. damage with this build.I´m glad to see that I can play my shatter mesmer and be really effektive.
don’t take it bad, but could you please Post:
Your match records
because i consider your build as Ineffective. You are dead meat for Condi and even thieves can take you down easily. You can not port, and you have 00 Chance against Scrapper.
You must have been heavily carried.
But as said, let us see your Match record first, did you play stronghold?
(edited by Seyiwaji.4082)
Idk why everyone’s got sand in their pants about this. Clearly you all would have been much more accepting if instead of making a text post, they’d posted a beautifully edited and tastefully funny video documenting their experience.
OP got to legend on a full glass mesmer. They got to legend with a massive winrate. This is indicative both of the fact that OP clearly knows how to use shatter mesmer, and that they obviously weren’t facing Abjured. Any questions?

I want a special plaque for getting to diamond using power berserker running rifle (and some lockdown anguish mes)
Wait.. that wasnt a question XD
you even bothered to replay Fay.2357 post….
Hey. Sure I can post my match records when I get home. I dont know where I can find them tho. I guess from gw2pvp.com or something. I need to make an account there. Tell me if you have easyer way.
I play almost this exact build in PvP (different traits in Chronomancer and different sigils). It’s great for a lot of things and definitely a hidden gem, but… honestly, it has its problems. Stability screws me so much, and classes that puke it out like Warriors, Scrappers, and Revenants (all popular and meta classes right now) give me an immensely hard time.
It’s also extremely unforgiving due to the complete lack of any condition removal. Get hit by one primal burst from the Warrior, let the Necromancer stack even a couple of bleeds on you, let the enemy condition Mesmer hit one good condi bomb on you, and you’re done.
Also, DHs are an absolute nightmare, for the same reasons that they’re a nightmare for Thieves. Even though they’re considered underpowered, largely due to projectile defence and their predictable nature, they are just as unforgiving as fighting a condition class, if not more unforgiving. You need to dodge every true shot, trigger all the traps with your clones, bait out their million and one blocks and their automatic stunbreak trait, and make sure that under no circumstance do you get hit by the F1 pull.
Aside from all that, the build has its strengths, one of the more significant strengths perhaps being that it’s a build not many people expect (I still enjoy the occasional “wtf” that my enemies write in /say chat when they realise I just ate their health bar in a second and that I’m not on a condition build, lol). I consider it very difficult to play and “high risk low reward”, especially compared to the condition build, but it’s definitely a ton of fun to play and I play it almost exclusively in ranked PvP. Got to diamond with it but I’m struggling to get to legendary haha.
This is exactly what i mean, even a druide Pet will finish you off.
But I accept that you went there as Power mesmer with few game and i congratulate you.
I just want to understand how is your MMR, this is why i ask you Matches record.
Press the cross’Sword on the top of the screen. Look in Ranked Liga, You can see your last matches and how many PVP matches you played.
I also wanted to know if you played stronghold.
This is something that does not happen to me all the time. This was the first time I got this high win rate. That is why I wanted to post it. I have not played Shatter mesmer in Ranked in about 6 months. I play a lot of shatter mesmer in other PvP aspects of this game. This is not normal so there is many different aspects that effect this. It is not just luck, skill, mmr, the time I play, the build I play but a combination of that all and much more. I even doubt some weard mmr bug or something. All the maches felt normal and the skill of enemys and my allys seemed normal. So I think this was mostly because of that I played shatter mesmer and a build that is rarely seen in PvP+some skill and that I was playing in the end of the season when there is less really good players. I dont really know but it was awesome and tought others may want to try it too. Thats why I am here.
So ppl doubt the effectiveness of this build versus current meta builds. Especially the survivability and potential of winning fights.
The thing is that you dont need pretty much any survivability from this build. It is all about the play style. You allmost never 1v1 and never go to fair fights after the first mid fight what you win with the surprise burst and massive aoe cc. You dont need condition clear cos your opponent cant pressure you 3v2 or 2v1 while you kite off point and spam cc on them. You make all the fights so fast that they have all the time some one respawning and make it possible for you to allways have a fight you can outnumber.
You dont need portal when mainly playing just 2 points and with that mantra I can win 1v1s vs necro, ele or ranger when I have cooldowns. Even egual team fights are very much easyer and doable.
I am a veteran WvW roamer and I have never used inspirations in my most used shatter builds so I know how to stay alive and duel condi builds without inspirations or more condi clear than the mantra. After HoT I aggree that you need inspirations to fight good condi builds in WvW but it is so much different in PvP.
Scrappers are a real pain in the kitten so I try to avoid them and target them last. Thieves can be hard too but if I keep outnumbering them he cant outnumber me. Just stay alert and avoid their opener. When they try to stay on me I use all the possible spots where they cant port and it should be pretty easy to make them useless. Only 2 thieves in the same team can really make me useless but that is so bad for the enemy team that they will lose even if you would be spending more time respawning than really fighting. In about 40% of my games I die 0 times and most of the time under 3 times per game. So the survivability is not a problem if you can position yourself well. Other hard opponents like warriors and guardians are only hard when they try to kill you or you 1v1 them. With stealth, disengage and kiting the target is easily dropped from you tho. When they are getting outnumbered they cant focus on killing you and warrior is easily kited. When I die, yes it is cos of I got hit from a condition or power burst and dont have ele clensing me. That is allways cos I played carelessly and it could have been avoided by playing differently. It is not all just that simple ofcourse you need to be able to adjust your play style and strategy if needed but that is the fundemental strategy I use.
Thx for the congratulations I got.
This is nice and grats op but it’s just sad to see ppl giving silly reasons to try and say shatter is bad nothing was nerfed for shatter other than mirror blade ( was needed) in the past and with the addition of chrono and shield imo its even better condi is simply safer to play and has more sustained survival along with other things but those being its key points. As for some saying high risk low reward that makes no sense when you can pretty much catch someone in a stunlock and blow them up high risk high reward.
If anything the most important part of info you gave out Op was playstyle far to many times ppl will just rush into fights without thinking of cds what your facing environmental awareness teammates the list can go on and on.
Ppl live and die by whats meta far to much to the point they don’t know how to switch in and out utility or entire builds based on what they’re up agasint.

Power shatter isn’t bad because it was nerfed, pre HoT it was pretty good. It’s bad because other classes got more defences and greater uptime on boons/damage reduction. Some classes can quite literally face tank your full damage mind wrack and have healed all that damage back by the time you get to use it again while still applying a lot of pressure on you.
You can still burst people down, especially if low and portal is the same function as even however a lot of classes can now mitigate your burst so much that you have to be a lot better than them. That’s without even mentioning thief and how it is just better in the power role.

Please do explain what classes can actively stop this damage without using a utility or wep skill or popping a passive trait at sub % hp. The whole point of a power shatter Mesmer is to burst the kitten out of someone while CCed. Please give examples of the mitigated burst by other classes that makes it beyond difficult for a shatter mes to get damage on a target.
Also this argument about how thief is better in the power role is so over used by the entire community ele is the better healer rev is the better power class to use thief is only for decapping necros are to tanking condi is to strong etc etc.
Power shatter Mesmer bring their own special form of power damage in the form of extra bodies on the field and lock down power on top of it’s class skills and utility options the list goes on.
Just because it’s not the best option for mes doesn’t make it bad nor a niche build.
Every class has access to a stun break, if they carry it and its not on CD you can’t lock them down as easily as a power shatter mesmer, and a lot of players that aren’t as good with the build will burn through their shatters right as the other player stun breaks and escapes. They don’t wait to keep them locked down.
Also I’ve seen guardians and warriors just ignore anything I’ve thrown at them before. The little damage I’ve done is almost instantly healed through regen or a regular heal. Didn’t matter if it was a power shatter build, a condi bomb build or other build I’ve seen too many other players just flat out ignore my burst
Just so happened that scrapper has 60% stability uptime just by evading your clones (and rest 40% most likely covered by gyros) so standard power shatter needs to play smart against a random dude who just picked up meta builds…but OP has pretty good map awareness so that’s shouldn’t be too much trouble with mesmer’s mobility.
From my experience with fatboy ele spec I can say this is also pretty good in lockdown cleric ele in focus fire, thus supporting a decent shatter mes will definitely give your team an edge in mid team fight.
All in all I think OP has pretty good control of the spec and are well aware of its weakness. That speaks more than having a meta build.
Funny enough, since this thread has been started I’ve met three power shatter mesmers in sPvP, despite not having seen one in months.
The three of them got obliterated (Sapphire division -I’m just your regular PvEr doing his dailies). This build is still not meant for beginners
(edited by GLaDOS.5897)
I guess you cant get to legend with this build if you cant get to legend with meta builds. It needs experience. But if you can get to legend and want to try something fun and in my experience really effective. Then I really recommend you try this.
I did not play any stronghold.

Did you really just say the part in bold? Lol.
As for the increase in damage mitigation then a simple look at the scrapper is a great example.
Hammer:
Extremely low cool down reflect and high damage (not applicable to power shatter)
Low cool down evade and tracking damage double leap finisher.
Medium cool down channel end block.
Gyros:
Bulwark gyro is a better pDefender, follows you, instant cast, short cool down, halves damage you take with a great reflect bubble on tool belt.
Medic gyro is instant cast heal with a good protection uptime tool belt skill and water field for above mentioned leap finishers.
Stealth gyro to reveal you if you use stealth, to drop target to prevent counter burst.
Traits:
Perfectly weighted for stab on evading attacks, gl with “bursting the kitten out of someone while CC’d” with high stab uptime.
Rapid regeneration for decent regen level tick and high regen and protection from other traits. Lots of super speed in the build too from…
Final salvo, yet more stability often on instant cast gyros and super speed for more regen and a lightening field to leap through to daze.
Impact savant makes CC last longer for you and less for enemies and is a minor.
This is all without mentioning other synergies in other lines like protection injection for high protection uptime, hidden flask with HGH for elixir might stacking and the classic self regulating defences. The extra defence of scrapper also allows for high precision builds which give lots of sustain from bunker down too for more med kits.
Other elites got a lot of this too.
The OP should feel good for getting to legend using a non meta build which has the meta stacked against him. OP is probably better than the people he faced by quite a large margin too all things considered and should feel good about that.

All you did was lay out the strengths of 1 elite spec scrapper which everyone knows are currently if not the best all around class/elite spec. And no a lot of other elites don’t have that as well scrapper are literally a mix of everything that’s the eng profession in general they have no outright bad matchup . The point remains that shatter mes is not bad and the general QQ about variety and the lack of it is false.

Let’s then talk about warrior then.
Berserker brought repeated easy access to level 3 adrenaline bursts which improved cleansing ire to make them extremely condition damage resilient. HoT also saw a buff to adrenal healing which again when combined with berserker allows for almost 100% uptime on level 3 adrenal healing, that’s nearly 1k health regen a second with healing sig. Eternal champion brought pulsing stability on berserk, as well as a trait for going berserk breaking stuns. As for utilities they got a 10s CD stun break and adrenaline generator. Yet more things to shut down your “kitten them while CC’d” arguement.
Ranger got Druid. Staff has ride the lightening on steroids, which heals you. They got a lot of CC and healing in glyphs, CA becomes a stun break and cleanse all, CA allows you to heal up any damage taken. The new pets, the bristle back and smokescale can both take off 50% of your health easily and are tanks enough to not die vs you. Ancient seeds when combined with the higher amount of hard CC in the game allows them to immob you which because this build has little condition clear then makes you a sitting duck. They also had shouts redone with protect me giving protection and taunting you onto the pet and guard letting the pet tank damage for the ranger.
Necromancer got rise where minions take damage for you, they got more access to chill which will increase your cool downs massively while being tanky enough to wreck especially this build with conditions. They got additional stability from infusing terror and chill to the bones and chilled foes deal less damage to them as a minor.
Elementalists got more protection and regen, revenants have lots of blocks and evades while being able to shut down your defenses, thieves can engage and disengage even more now and with the extra dodge and endurance regen from DD they can random dodge your burst and you’re screwed if you meet one that actually knows what they’re doing.
I have given you reasons backed up with skill names. I have also played a lot of power shatter against these classes. You have to outplay them considerably to get a win while these other classes can make a lot of mistakes and not be punished nearly as much as power shatter.

You act as if though Mesmer have a hard time removing stab which is sad you also list skills that are crucial to how other classes function nothing that’s over blown if they didn’t have these things they would outright explode facing others. You also act as if they those classes have no set up to get their damage out. All I’m getting out of this is you want Mesmer to have everything every other class has. You have to outplay anyone when pvping some specs are easier then others. The point remains that shatter mes is not bad
A great example from not that long ago in the past was Burn guardians ppl loved to act as though it was brainless but anyone with common sense to take a condi cleanse would be more than fine. Again certain specs such kittenter mes like the OP said go in on a certain target put the stuns/dazes out and burst them down in +1s back out it’s not a bully/bruiser sit on a point build like most ppl play it.
Also the skills/traits/utility you really should have been listing are things such as endure pain, elixir S, Signet of stone, Obsidan skin, those are the type of skills that outright block incoming bursts from enemy target/s. that are special unlike evades.

None of that is pertinent to what I said if you’d even bothered to read and then think. I said before HoT it was pretty good, everything you listed here was there before HoT and used regularly, you just waited it out then we’re usually free to burst. What has happened with HoT is that a lot of the elite specs brought more damage reduction and healing or ways to mitigate damage on top of what was already there. This has the effect of reducing your window of opportunity to burst someone down and prolonging fights which is not what you want to keep momentum going.
Don’t try and get snarky I read what you wrote everything listed was before hot and it was all they had access to. The more DR and healing was needed for certain specs. It’s hilarious how quickly ppl forget mainly yourself how strong shatter mesmer was before HoT and how strong it is now. That healing and DR affects all classes so you saying again shatter is bad is baseless as it affects condi the same exact way ppl simple trait the condi spec with inspiration to have more sustain through healing and cleansing because of how condis work as a damaging aspect.
Honestly at this point I can tell you simple need to try and have the last word to try and console w/e deluded judgement you have about power shatter so I’m going to stop feeding the troll under the bridge.
Again grats to the OP
Did you really just say the part in bold? Lol.
As for the increase in damage mitigation then a simple look at the scrapper is a great example.
Hammer:
Extremely low cool down reflect and high damage (not applicable to power shatter)
Low cool down evade and tracking damage double leap finisher.
Medium cool down channel end block.Gyros:
Bulwark gyro is a better pDefender, follows you, instant cast, short cool down, halves damage you take with a great reflect bubble on tool belt.
Medic gyro is instant cast heal with a good protection uptime tool belt skill and water field for above mentioned leap finishers.
Stealth gyro to reveal you if you use stealth, to drop target to prevent counter burst.Traits:
Yet more things to shut down your “kitten them while CC’d” arguement.Ranger got Druid.
Lol, I love how you jump to this conclusion. The debate has been purely of one person giving examples of how power shatter is bad (in the face of these things). Then from that you think they’re saying buff power shatter in various ways to overcome these outright.
Strawman! :D
Honestly at this point I can tell you simple need to try and have the last word to try and console w/e deluded judgement you have about power shatter so I’m going to stop feeding the troll under the bridge.
Lol, oh man, this one’s even better. You berate Apharma as being “snarky” (though I couldn’t see that myself), then follow up with an entire paragraph attacking his character in premium Ad hominem fashion, all the while doing exactly what you’re accusing Alpharma of doing (squeezing in the last word, with an Ad hominom no less, and then saying you’re bowing out of the conversation with no further room for discourse).
