Favorite Weapon Set

Sword/Focus+Staff is my all time favorite weapon set for PvP. All 3 weapons are designed for melee fighting and gives you a lot of self-defense. I love the interrupt style, and this weapon set helps with AOE interrupts a lot.
I’m also becoming a huge fan of sword/pistol+Staff for similar reasons.
“The jealous are troublesome to others, but certainly a torment to themselves.”
With IP baseline? I’m loving sword-torch. Stealth, a stun-break (though buggy), a phantasm that grants fury, a blur that can also be burst, and a decent autoattack for cleave/downed targets.
It’s a great, tricky kind of set that can find use in a lot of builds. And when you can actually get the swordswap to work, you can come up with some wicked combos. (And that aside, if you don’t feel like swapping, the clone summon is right on top of the enemy, so it’s perfect if you desperately need a diversion or a mindwrack for someone just out of range.)
This is for PvP of course. Whenever I see an enemy trying to set something up, I swap to this weapon and get ready to dance.
As a single weapon: Focus (traited) – such a beautiful weapon, I wish I could have it in mainhand as well!
As a weapon set: Sword/Torch – I love the sheer evasiveness of this set. Blurred frenzy is such an amazing tool which can nullify shatter bursts, rapid fires, backstabs and all sorts of crazy damage bursts people can do to you. Especially quickness buffed rapid fire… just like Neo. Prestige offers additional defence while blurred frenzy is on cooldown.
I almost always open in this set to counter enemy burst damage before going on the offensive. iLeap is so much fun for catching people up ledges when they’re not expecting it (the post patch clone summoning delay is annoying though). I seriously can’t wait for alacrity and traiting mainhand sword for this set.

Started with Sw/Pistol+GS for PVP at game launch and moved to Sw/Sw+GS permanently after about a year into the game. Don’t see myself changing anytime soon.
Lee Oren – Ranger
Eve Oren – Revenant
Scepter/pistol + staff. Shatter condi.
GS/Staff for me. Mostly WvW, shatter roaming.
Sw+T/GS for me. Being able to stealth without using a utility skill is wonderful, and the burst from either weapon set is just phenomenal.
I use everything we can use except torch.
I agree that if it wasn’t for the stealth, torch is really the only weapon I don’t like. The phantasm feels really… pointless. Burning is not OP enough to make this phantasm worth anything.
What do you guys think of Chronomancer Shield and do you think it will be a viable option? I personally am super excited and can’t wait to use the Shield.

I can’t wait to use Scepter/Shield.
With deja vu it would mean 3 blocks, nice illusion generation and good cc.

But you were so ineffective against that thief -_-u

Staff/Scepter/Focus has been my “main” set for months. Although, the bleeds from the new Pistol are tempting … so very tempting.
As for Shield, depends on its lockdown and/or condi applications. But, kittenit … I still want my MH Pistol. And sharpish, might I add? :P
Other 80s: Any but Warrior
These days, scepter/Focus and Staff. Nice utility (interrupts, condis, blinds, reflections).
Mostly play WvW. Sword’s a bit tricky for me… to frail in melee range!
Sword/Sword & GS or Staff.
Not really in a Specific build but those weapons are the most fun to play with imo.
The scepter is awesome too. but mainly coz of the block & confusion.
Sword/Sword and Staff. Front load staff skills at the beginning of combat and Swords ftw.
For open world, running around with the greatsword with all the traits to make it a nice weapon to use for shattering in an environment where it really doesn’t matter most of the time.
I really like sunrise…
genuine question – why all of the love for GS? I feel like i am doing something wrong but it never feels terribly powerful to me.
Disclaimer: i am still leveling, so it may be a level thing.
Well, #5 is a powerful CC skill. It is most effective in pushing foes out of Thief’s Shadow Refuge.
And opening a Mind Wrack with Mirror Blade into Mind Stab in melee range just is super strong burst. Also iZerker is one of our most powerful offensive phantasm.

scepter/sword. now that the main ‘burst’ skill also ‘pierces’, my favored dueling set has become my weapons of choice. Probably will change this once chronomancer hits and will replace sword with shield.
As true as Odin’s spear flies,
There is nowhere to hide.
For PvE, I find Scepter/Focus + Staff the best overall. Also Mantra of Recovery is mandatory. For the ultimate survivor build.
Focus is hands down the best off-hand: multi-hit (extra procs, ie bleeds from trait), whirling finisher, protection, hits multiple enemies, high damage (albeit also high variance), speed buff, pull enemies (interrupts). All of which sums up to great survivability, great damage, and great utility.
Sword arguably kills faster than Scepter. However, I prefer to stay at range with near endless supply of illusions (including traits and utilities.)
Mantra of Recovery cannot be interrupted. That’s very key to survival. Under some circumstances, you can trait Harmonious Mantras for extra activation.
