Hi, I have played GW2 when it started for some time and fiend convinced me to try to come back now. From the last time I do have lev 80 War and Mesmer.
During the last days I have tried both of my lev80 toons and also Necro and Guard. Result is quite easy for me – same as 2 years ago Mesmer gameplay is for me hundred times better fun then any other class. So decision is quite easy – will continue with my Mesmer
Now for the questions:

1) Which equip prefix is best/most universal for Mesmer? I am probably going to play with GS/Staff – as I like these most and now running 44006 builld. As for now I have full set of lev 80 exotic Rampager’s equip (which according to few googled results is not optimal).

2) I have found out I kinda enjoy farming in WvW, but have nasty issues with Mesmer’s run speed (or lack of to be specific). What do you do to do not lag behind the zerg? Only real speed buff I am aware off is from Temporal Curtain but I do not like to loose Staff and also uptime is not great….

3) How is Mesmer doing on OP’s scale? (Not really that important – I like HOW it plays and will play it anyway – but would like to know if people will kick me from group “because your class is bad”).

4) When leveling alts I have noticed Skill point rewards for levels – this was IMHO not present 2 years ago – and because I had some SP on both my lev 80 chars I do not know if this change was compensated for lev 80 chars or not? (ie. does “new” lev 80 have advantage of 70 or so SP?)

TY

I’d recommend traveler runes not to lag being a zerg, though since they are 50g for a set you can go for runes of the centaur and get an endless tonic (you can get those for 20s and the runes will be under 1g for sure). When you need swiftness, you use the tonic and exit the tranform. The exit counts as a healing skill (as it will most often be in the healing skill spot) and will thus grant you swiftness.
You shouldn’t get kicked if you’re running a meta build for dungeons Mesmer’s one of the new dominating classes for PvP again (was UP and not favored much for a long time).
As for weapon set, use what suits you, though I enjoy GS+Sw/F for soloq, GS + Staff for teamq, GS +Sw/t or Gs + Sw/f for WvW and for PvE I’d recommend s/p + s/f. Sword and pistol OH are both good, I just prefer pistol. Just buy all weapons level 80 exotic zerker and give them all a try. Scepter is only weapon that is in condi only builds excluding a few phantasm builds which aren’t good for anything other than 1v1. (Just phant builds with scepter, not all of them in general)

Well, the most ‘universal’ set would be berserker. I’m not sure that’s what you should be getting though, since it sounds like you’re primarily using this in wvw. I’d recommend perhaps a mix of zerk, knights, and cavs to get the power damage but retain some more toughness.

There are 2 main options for swiftness. Centaur runes are the fastest and cheapest option. They allow you to maintain permanent swiftness through the use of a permanent tonic…or the mantra heal. The lazy option is traveler runes. Those will provide a permanent 25% movement speed boost without any other action on your part. They’re also extremely expensive.

Mesmer is always welcomed in a group if you’re playing properly. If you bring a condition build into a dungeon, you’re liable to be kicked on sight. If you bring a phantasm build, even if it isn’t perfectly meta (which you should do regardless) you should be fine.

The level up rewards don’t require compensation for 80s, they’re…so different. Basically, Anet stripped out and otherwise locked off an enormous amount of stuff that previously was just available to people as they leveled, and are now giving it slowly back to them as they level in the form of “rewards”. It’s pretty slimy.

in WvW, while zerging or raiding with my build I’m assigned to the pick team running 4, 4, 0, 0, 6. There are a few good ‘zerging’, or tagging builds on mes now. It’s a matter of what you’re there to do.

For speed I run a speed sigil on my GS. It just allows the swiftness to stack (easily up to 3 mins) just from things dying. Because of the full glass I can also burst down an NPC while running from point A to B if I want. The zerg also provides a ton of swiftness. Traveler runes just aren’t necessary. Traiting a long range blink also goes a long way.

Thank you all guys – Runes of Centaur are amazing – combined with Mirror for heal I have nearly 100% swiftness uptime by myself
Also I have spent most of karma I had from 2 years ago and got full set of Berzerker Temple armor + GS for Badges of Honor
Have to say this works quite good.
Started to play with builds and now trying something like this http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fhAQJARWlsnpRtdqxMNcrRSqxYybS5UPRyBCokf0NA-T1QLAAv6PgOAb/BA-w
