I’ve been playing mesmer a long time now, yet I still have trouble with this problem. I don’t quite know where I fit in.

When I play on my ele I’m in the back with staff popping combo fields and sharing aura’s. When I’m D/D I’m in the fray unleashing all the skills I can causing havoc. When I’m on my thief I’m picking off stragglers or using malice+dagger storm.

With mesmer…I’m not quite sure what I do. I mean the obvious would be sit in the back and spam GS1 but that doesn’t really benefit the group. Veil and MI Are more tools for an organized group. I mean there’s null field and feedback but it’s not bringing much to the group as a whole. How do you play your mes in a zerg situation?

Trait for Blind —> Confusion on Blind.

Glamour Fields

As stated earlier, 30 in illusions and stack the confusion on blind/glamour causes blind.

Also may want to trait for increased glamour duration.

Pop glamour fields on enemy groups and watch the beautiful purple ticks.

A mesmer having trouble fiding a place to fit in? O.o

I don’t like GS, so I use staff and sword+focus. Mesmers have some of the best group utilities.

I also love pulling people with the focus. Either by a cliff or if they are getting bold and standing too close to the edge of the keep. Just get ready to immobilize them or they scurry back in.

I’d say either:
1. GS & Sword/x
2. Staff & Scepter/Torch

As others have stated, use a glamour build. Look up Kylias for a real good one. You will instantly become the most dangerous person in your entire zerg.

And get pulled into the middle of the enemy zerg and primaried. X)

just a vid of me in a zerg. 7 min zerg fight. I was solo , GS/Staff. I mainly just like to kill people from a distance. Not saying I’m great but as you can see I get a few kills and do get away in the end after our zerg get wiped.

lol,happened only a few times to me and i use feedback like 3000 times a day.Glamour is a fun build, but u gotta get used to it and time your cooldowns right.Love running with kylia!

Get a rabid gs with S. rune of corruption.

If running with the zerg (or just large size battles generally), try glamour with or without scepter.

Don’t forget to bring veggie pizza. The +36% condition duration version is only 1-2 silver a pop. (The +40% version is much more silver for the extra 4% and may not even give you an extra tick as you may hit the +100% cap with 30 in dom, the 33% increase trait in illusions and the 36% from the food.)

If you are a mesmer and when doing WvW you are not inside of the enemy zerg, you are doing it wrong. As other players already mentioned, there are many forms of playing a mesmer.

Glamour/shatter confusion build is one of them.
Support mantra build is another.
Mirror build another…

But if you want to have fun, let it be known to you that i can blink to a gorup of 10 ppl, cast havoc, and walk away while they try to figure out where i am. Can i kill some1 with full hp while doing it? No. Most of the times i do that i get killed? Yes. What am i doing then? Simple, preparing the kill train for my fellow mates

Glamour is the way to go in my oppinion, your able to cause massive problems for the enemy and help your team out with all your utility.

If playing solo you can still be effective by soloing supply camps and towers pulling enemy away from the main combat zones.
