Q:

The trolling never stops, I’ve finally caught you and smacked your head into the ground until you can no longer escape, or so I thought. I’ve searched it but haven’t found enough detail on the matter. To clarify, you cloak, teleport away, and summon a downed clone? Where do you teleport to, is it random? Where does the clone appear? Also random? Does the clone appear before you do?

I’ve all but given up on going for the finisher (similar to thieves as its impossible without quickness.)

Thanks in advance :]

A:

Using #2 downed skill you:
- summon a downed clone at your possition
- port away (not far) in random direction
- gain stealth for 2-3 sec
Protip: only the real downed mesmer has the red mark over him (the one indicating downed players). Clones don’t have that.

They’re both possible without quickness. Additionally, I’ve killed many Mesmers because they don’t time their #2 properly (and many thieves because they don’t aim/time their blink properly).

Pay attention to the de-stealth particles.

Second pro tip, the clone always appears first, always, so ignore the first downed mesmer and wait for the second.

Seriously though, look for the skull on top of the downed mesmer. It is big, it is red, it is a big arrow pointing at your target

If you are low on health when you get the mesmer on the ground… use invis, or get behind the downed mesmer to finish them. The mesmer #1 downed skill does pretty decent damage, and with us and the clone spamming it… I’ve quite often taken down other players and finished them off from a downed position and rallied.

Possible if they’re bad, assuming they know what they’re doing then its more effective to just spam attack.

Mesmers: you have to stomp them twice (they blink away, but after that they are doomed).

Thieves: you have to stomp them three times, at least (first they teleport, then they stealth, and if they are lucky or you are too slow their teleport is ready again by that time … ).

My tip:
Condition mesmers are dangerous in downstate because they apply confusion with every attack (and I think the downed clone does it too). You’ll suffer a huge stack of confusion and thus you may blow yourself up if you keep attacking them. That’s why stomp is a valid option, you don’t suffer from condition damage but still finish the mesmer.

Another tip:
If you throw AoE on the downed mesmer, he’ll use his blink to get out of AoE radius (since it’s random he is often out of luck but he’ll still try). After that you can stomp him with no problem.

And a tip for thieves:
The downstate #2 skill (blink/clone) requires a target to be used. Use stealth to stomp mesmers. A good mesmer will use another target (trash mob, other enemies) to blink anyway, but if it’s a 1vs1 and you are invisible, the downed mesmer is doomed.

Roll a thief, stomp from stealth. Troll level > 9000.
Imo Deception shouldn’t work random but like phase retreat, I’d happily switch with the elementalist’s Vapor Form.
