So I basically main druid and thief secondary and I dabble with necro and ele and those have gotten a bit boring. I can’t seem to live long enough to swap weapons on a mesmer I die soo much that I’m thankful for the infinite repair canister lol.

Reason why I want to main mesmer is because it’s hard for me to get used to and it’s challenging so I was wondering if anyone has any beginner tips to survival on a mesmer

Well, what is your context. As in, where do you die? Is this in PvP? Or in PvE? And if yes (either :P ), then what specifically, do you use the Mesmer for fractals, open world, raiding, etc?

Since you main thief, you should be familiar with the concept of evasion tanking since that class can take just about no hits to the face.

Mesmer works very similar in that regard, just that we add blurr, distortion, blocks and interupts into the mix. Your mainhand sword for example provides 2 1/2 seconds of blurr on a base 12s cooldown.

Mesmers are quite squishy and survive (just like thief) by actively ignoring attacks. It does require some getting used to.

My few suggestions:

• Do not shatter your illusions until you get used to the weapons and skills. They will serve you better when they stay alive as long as possible and distract the mobs attentions from you.
• Use Staff and x/Sword as second weapon set to have both a melee and ranged phantasm available. If you use scepter but don’t want to create clones with the auto-attack just ctrl+right click on the skill to switch off automated attack.
• Tab-target a mob and start the fight with staff 2 to create a clone and ideally get pushed out of range, so your attack won’t land but only the clones one and the mob will attack the clone instead of you. Then continue to summon clones and/or phantasms.
• If you have to fight more than one mob, tab-target through them and assign one illusion to each one of them. Use staff and circle around while its auto attack will bounce between the mobs.
• Get Phantasmal Disenchanter asap, because it is one of the most useful phantasms, it has a bouncing attack that hits multiple mobs and cures conditions on itself, you, your illusions and other players.
• Start with Inspiration tree to get regeneration from phants, then skill the Illusions tree. The third tree depends on your prefered weapons/playstyle.
• Always keep moving except you use Sword/x.
