From wvw standpoint --
It depends on what build your running I suppose. I used to run a Condi build with Mirror Images so whenever I initiated a fight, I’d pop my F5 ability followed by Mirror Images & my F2 ability to land an instant Confusion burst. Then the F5 ability would kick in and allow me to play that burst all over again.
It’s only supposed to refresh the skills you’ve used in the short time before the second part of the ability activates.

Last night I started getting pressured, had 2 clones out so used CS, blinked away and kept running away. The enemy chased me about 1500 distance from where I was then I returned via CS and blinked the opposite direction and got away.
Most of the time I use it for double MI or double gravity well or to use mimic for free when using portals to build ACs because the cretins on my server won’t build it.
Ok so I should be using BEFORE I am ready to cast my big stuff (like moa, portal, blink etc)?
So I hit f5.. Cast the big stuff. Then I have to hit f5 again to reset the timers (and I believe I also port back to my first location, hps etc).. Any easy way to know how much time I have to hit f5 second time?
You don’t need to hit F5 again. The CS effect will end when the time runs out.
The amount of time you get depends on the number of illusions you have up when you use CS. I think it’s something like 1.5 seconds base plus 1 second per shattered illusion (or until the continuum rift is destroyed).
You can actually start casting a long cast before you do your CS shatter. As long as the cooldown hasn’t started, your skill will be off cooldown when CS ends.
You really want to practice using this skill to get a feel for it. I find I often do a CS shatter and immediately do an F4 shatter because I hate getting interrupted during my CS time.
