Hi all, wanted to get some input on key configs for a Mesmer with a G13.

I currently have a pretty wild set-up.

I love the G13 because I love using the joystick. I use it for forward/back/strafing. I use my mouse to turn in conjunction with the joystick, so my movements feel pretty fluid. However! I just can’t decide on a skill bind set-up that feels right, and my fingers have a hard time reaching G1-G7 easily when using the joystick.

Right now I do this:
G19:Target
G22: Jump
G24: Autorun
Middle mouse button center: Dodge
Middle mouse button left: Ctrl/PTT

But everything else is sketchy at this point, and since I can’t decide what I want to bind to what yet, I end up clicking! Bad Blythe, bad! (They should totally put an option in Interface that makes your skills un-clickable! ….erm, they don’t, do they?)

So, whats your G13 setup? or do you have any suggestions for short girl fingers?

I use a 12 dollar Wal-Mart keyboard and a seven year old MX518 that looks like it was found in a dumpster at this point. Utilities are bound to E, R and C. Elite is X. Everything else is default.

If I can get by like that, you don’t need all that fanciness and convoluted keybinds.

But I love my itty bitty joystick…I’m spoiled now!

I’m a guy but I have short fingers too, I find that the Razer Nostromo, actually has much easier to access buttons if you don’t mind sacrificing the screen.

I was expecting a “Pic or it never happend” in this discussion :P

I use a Merc Stealth keyboard and a Naga Hex mouse, so it’s a bit different, but looking at the G13, this is what I would do.

For the G1-7 keys, I would put things that you need less often, but that are handy to have up there. Specifically, I would put autorun on G1, since that will probably be the hardest to reach, and I would put target on either G4, since it looks like you could feel it by touch, or G7, because it is easy to find quickly. I would then put weapon skills on G15-19, utilities on 20-22, and your heal and elite on G8 and G14, whichever way. Jump is a bit tricky, since you want to be able to use it while moving. If you can bind it to one of those keys by the joystick and use both comfortablly, I would do that, if not, maybe put it either right in the middle on G11, or if you have a 5 Button Mouse, put it on one of those.

I’ve been using a G13 for playing a Mesmer since launch.

I do so differently than you though, as I use G3/4/5/10/11/12 for WASD+QE keys. the joystick I use for targetting (left/right) and showing all item and NPC names (Up/down).

I’ve got my shatter skills in the top right corner G6/7/13/14
My weapon skill are right below my movement keys with G15-19 with my utilities below them.
My elite and my heal are left of my movement keys,
Swap weapon is on G8 and ESC is on G1.

The two unlabeled buttons by the joystick I use for Interact and Jump.

I’m sure if I moved some shit around I could get a marginally more efficient layout, but this works well and after the last three months is pretty much second nature to me now.

Same, G13 since Beta.
WASD on G4/G10/G11/G12.
Weapon skills on joystick + button on its left.
Utilities on G5-G7.
Elite on G3.
Heal on G22.
Jump on button under joystick.
Weapon swap on G9.
Interact on G13
Shatters on G14/G16/G17/G18.
Target on G19.

Movement on G keys instead of joystick make quick change of direction feels more sharp, but it might just be me.

Love my G13 I still tweak it constantly though as it’s not “perfect” I have rather small hands myself though I’m not a girl so maybe this setup would be helpful. I kind of grip my g13 with a claw resting position pinky on g9, ring finger on g3, middle on g4, index on g5, and my thumb resting on the analog stick.

I use stick for movement and the button press is b for scoreboards
g1 = auto run
g2 = 6 for heal
g3 – g5 = 1 – 3
g6 = F
g7 = T
g8 = G
g9 = 4
g10 = 5
g11 – g13 = 7-9
g14 = h
g15 = space or jump
g16 = e for camera flip
g17 = 0 for elite
g18 = m for map
g19 = i for inventory
g20 = esc
g22 = f5 dont normally use in game

I’ve tried to move my keybindings around after playing with this for awhile but I always end up back on this setup. one thing I did find is that if you used home keys g10-g13 this puts the hand closer together and can be more comfortable. Meaning if you rest pinky on g10 and index on g13, but doing this kind of wastes the far left buttons but if you put some shortcuts back there such as guild or hero tab probably wouldnt be so bad.

EDIT: forgot to mention that I use a g9x mouse I have tab targeting on middle mouse button, dodge on scroll right, weapon swap on scroll left, ctrl on thumb button and vent mute on dpi down. Class abilities are Ctrl g3-g6 found these the easiest to hit. So I hold control with my right hand thumb on the mouse and hit those keys for shatters.

Love my G13 but after using it for a couple years the thumb-stick gets “stuck”. For example it’ll get stuck in the W or the S position. I find this annoying with jumping puzzles. Other than that I love it.
