GS range vs DH's auto-attack range ?
This is a feature of most attacks using arcing projectiles. As the projectile continues to travel past the 1200 range it can be originally aimed at, depending on where you are, they are, the relative elevations and whether they aim manually (this allows crazy distances) you can hit beyond the range.
Mind you, this isn’t entirely exclusive. The target of GS has a sort of “impact area”. If you target something just out of 1200 range and manually hammer #1, you’ll cause damage.
(edit: This is a super-simplified explanation of the GS-thing which is quite wrong but conveys the idea)

I see, thank you.
However, since you say it’s a “feature”, does that mean Anet is aware of it and consider it “working as intended” ?

Yes, its working exactly how they intend it to work. This topic has been brought up many times on both their twitch channel and in the forums. I’d find you a link if I wasn’t late to work already.
The basic idea is arrows don’t disappear mid flight in real life, so the give them that extra 300~ distance to fall and hit the ground for a ‘realistic’ feel to the projectile’s arch.
Using real life to justify that arrows spawned from nowhere can’t suddenly disappear ? Interesting.
At least now I’m aware of it.
Ranger arrows fly 500 range further than max range – so they have 2000 range. I expect the same for every arrow kind? So yea, 1200 range + projectile = 1500-1700 range… It’s stupid imo…

It’s not the feature of “arrows falling.” It’s a server side/lag thing. They give about a 15% bonus to the ranged projectiles. Positioning server mumbo jumbo (I don’t remember exact explanation). With both the shooter and shootee of projectiles moving, having arrows instantly disappear at 1200 range was causing a lot of unnecessary accuracy problems and they gave the extra bonus range. Since the GS is a “laser” it doesn’t have flight time and therefore doesn’t get the same “grace” range increase.

This and the fact that they wanted high ground to give a range advantage when using projectiles.

GS beam does get a range increase though, it’s just not as drastic as projectile ones. I think they called it distance fuzzing or something.
The mesmer’s GS AA chain does gain benefits from physics pushing it to around 1400-1500, for an unknown reason. DH for some reason gets a lot.
So no, both weapons are “1200”, but physics carries such attack range further on both, modified differently by different physics.
If you had clones in front of you, DH bow AA gets a slight reset on its range if it hits a target and punctures into another; on my ranger running marksmanship (~2k range), I’ve had DH’s out-range me from this arc resetting due to targets being somewhat nearby me being pierced though.

I thought what I said was pretty straightforward but guess not. When I said “they don’t get the same grace range increase,” I meant they don’t have the same range increase.
Doesn’t mean that GS doesn’t get one at all. They just have different ones. Even melee attacks have the increase.
