GW1 Mesmer
In gw1 I hated mesmers – they were so hard to kill (although I have nice counter build on ranger unless mesmer had mana drain spell and used it correctly)
In gw2 I still hate mesmers.
but yes they aren’t same right now. in gw1 mesmers was deadly hexers – most mesmers I’ve met in gw2 are one player zergs… (some build based on massvie amounts of clones nad phantasms) the role is is most cases same – but the method change soamthing about 180 degrees.
yeah I also miss that old mesmers – they were more interesting to counter (because really seeing mesmer would means so many things – on WvW If i see mesmer that mostly mean – run away because You are alone and he have his zerg summons… – he is still on my personal achievement list “kill in WvW good player at 1v1” along with thief and minion master nekro)

discussion about offensive/deffensive playstyles
We have a mantra and a shatter to interrupt (apart from other spells like focus pull/GS knock-back).
Its just that we do not have any real interrupt promoting traits (they exist but are too weak) at the moment.
If the leaked notes are true, an interrupt build will be viable after the 25th.

Suggestions for improving/fixing elementalists
Hello everyone,
am I the only one that misses the old mesmer? I mean, mesmer in gw2 is fun and all but it just doesnt feel like mesmer anymore..
I really like confusion because that resembled a little bit the old mesmer. But since the nerf I actually dont find it fun anymore. The mesmer in gw1 really punished enemies. Backfire + Empathy totally shutdown a caster unless there was a monk to remove the hexes and people here complain about a lousy confusion stack that does not do nearly as much dmg as backfire+ empathy…
Or the interrupt mesmer. God that was fun and it took so much practice to be good at it.I just miss disabling people =[
omg yes i like this kind of playstyle a lot. i dont want a dps build. i enjoy interrupting and reflecting and i also like to stop a mindless zerg from steamrolling everything. it has gotten more and more boring for me to just have a build that can maybe be ok in a 1v1 situation, but is not good for wvw….but anet likes to dumb the game down, so the new players don’t have to think…thank god my guild leader is epic and comes up with the coolest builds…

Mesmer was so much fun in GW1, its still fun here but I’d much rather be throwing around Clumsiness than shattering clones on people.

Agreed. Like others here, I loved Mesmer in GW1, I love in GW2, but it’s not the same class. We have Thieves for a melee single target takedown, where’s the caster single target takedown?
Don’t get me wrong, I like making illusions and watching people attack those instead of me. I just miss the ability to completely disable single targets.
Confusion is a great condition for single target take down, but it’s not effective outside of PvE. They should swap out Confusion for Torment on Blinding Befuddlement and Confusing Enchantments. That way we keep AoE possibilities, and then they could rebuff Confusion for single target takedown.
Sorrow’s Furnace
I never played GW1 but from what I keep hearing about the GW1 mesmer it seems like the GW2 necro plays more like the GW1 mesmer maybe even more so after the patch.
I wished they developed GW1 futher instead of making the ’’GW2’’, which is not even close to GW1.
