Question is, which was better? Ive heard many people say Gw1 Mesmers were better, you truly felt like an ILLUSIONIST compared to what we have now in Gw2…
Thoughts?…
Just look at the list of GW1 Mesmer skills.

GW1 Mesmer was a true dps class, not this “gorunaroundanddothingsthatmayormaynotbeimpactfulandletusbigboyshandlethedpsontheraidboss” crap. Gw1 Mesmer actually manipulated the opponent and confused them, not this passive AI clone fluff that nobody really cares about.
What’s better, apples or oranges?
GW1 Mesmer still exists, and you can go play it. It’s located in GW1.
Likewise GW2 Mesmer can be played within GW2.
Note that while they share a similar name, they differ at the point where the numerical numbers “1” and “2” are introduced. I.e they’re not the same things! :D

AMEN!!!
Anet never meant to copy gw1 professions in gw2. From the very beginning it was stated mesmer in gw2 would be very different than in gw1.
Mesmer in gw2 is the evolution of the mix of gw1 mesmer and ritualist. The same way is guardian with paragon and monk.

Oh wow!!! They all look so powerful. So much unterrupt and energy reduction. Blackout!!! Disable all skils?!?! Whoa! Lol
I miss my old GW1 Mesmer, I actually felt that I was accomplishing something with the interrupts and disables. I love my Mesmer but every time I use it I can’t help but feel like I’m useless unless someone needs a veil. Armor doesn’t matter, build doesn’t matter, I’m not there for anything but veil.
The same way is guardian with paragon and monk.
Guardian is actually the spiritual successor of paragon, monk, and ritualist o.o
“It’s a pile of Elonian protection magic, mixed with a little monk training, wrapped up in some crazy ritualist hoo-ha from Cantha. A real grab bag of ‘you can’t hurt me’. They’re called Guardians.”
I miss gw1 mesmer with ability to fully control and punish the enemy
There is a power block build but with so many stability boons it isn’t effective as gw1 mesmer
They should made new elite that does dmg to player who is not pressing skills which force player to click and than you can interrupt more often
The GW1 mesmer and the GW2 mesmer have nothing in common, other than their profession name and the name of some of the skills, traits. The OP’s question is, to me, equivalent to asking which is the better mesmer, the GW1 necromancer or the GW1 ranger.

Both Paragon and Ritualist were so much more fun than the GW2 Guardian. Makes me said to hear that comparison.
I think I miss the Paragon most of all.
Gw1 easily hands down. Hexes, denial, interrupts when they played a bigger role, control, dps.
Gw2 its forced into ai, dps, or snooze condi …..at least its a more entertaining class than the others so it’s something.

I miss my Power Block mesmer in gw1. It’s so effective against eles, just interrupt and spam wastrel’s demise & wastrel’s worry, wastrel’s demise & wastrel’s worry, wastrel’s demise & wastrel’s worry…

Granted, I know next to nothing about the actual mechanics of fighting in GW1, but you’re not describing something that sounds like interesting and varied gameplay…
Anet took gw1 mesmer and split it for gw2 mainly in condition department
In gw1 using skill and taking dmg turn into confusion
Deny skill use in gw1 basicaly disappear in gw2
Prolong cd from gw1 almost disapear
Deny movement from gw1 also non exist and moved to necro while we got torment
I miss my hexes
I miss my hexes
We all do buddy. Come here /hug

My thoughts are that mesmer is impossible to play against.

If I fought like his opponents I’d think that too.
Also it’s a montage. He’s picked his glassiest opponents and selection of wins.
