Hola, mesmers!

Been on the fence about trying this class for a bit… then I saw a ‘portal bomb’ for the first time in WvW and…. now I’m thinking in mesmers!

Anywho, I got one made up and did some experimenting with a few different specs in heart of the mists on the target dummies… but none of the ones I tried seemed to really stand out against the others.

One thing I noticed is that I’m not hitting many different abilities when I do my rotations, which seems wierd… Only class I’ve played past level 2 so far is the engineer, which is a constant mess of micromanagement. Mesmer game play is definitely a lot more consistent, which is a nice change, but the rotations I’m coming up with seem almost too simple…

For example, I’m currently using a staff and scepter/focus, so my rortation generally looks something like:

(staff) Chaos Storm, Phanstasm, Chaos Armor (if friends/foes are in proximity), switch to Scepter/Focus, Phantasm, Confusing Images… then just auto attack and block as needed. If my illusionary army is nearing death, or if a red circle appears around them, I’ll shatter them… if I need more AoE I’ll switch back to the staff. Utility skills (blink, seed turret, portal) as needed.

…that’s pretty much it. Am I missing something? Could be that I’m just too used to the engineer’s clusterf#%$ed rotations, but… idk, I feel like I’m just auto-attacking too much, which is giving me the impulse to switch to a different kit and blow its CD’s… which obviously isn’t an option. xD

Aaaaanyway, do any of you know of a decent build to help me blow through leveling (via solo questing / map completion), and what kinds of rotations I should be doing? I’ve already got 100% world completion on my engineer, so I’m not really looking to take in the scenery this time around – just want to blast it to the top as quickly as possible… that said, world exploration is a great source of coin, so might as well go for 100% on a second toon (as opposed to leveling via WvW or something).

Any general mesmer advice would also be great… I’m a noob when it comes to this class. >_>

I wouldn’t recommend the scepter as a low level PvE weapon. It’s good when you’re stacking a lot of condition damage and confusion but I think for you it’s just providing low dps.

The sword is really strong for PvE. Mostly around the #2 skill but it’s all good.

With any class, your goal is to kite a group of mobs into a clump and then AoE that clump. Staff or GS skills will bounce well in that clump, shatter damage will hit all the targets, and the sword skills will hit all the targets. With a mesmer, I aim to take all targets down at once.

I can’t relate mesmer to engineer because that’s really the class I’ve played the least. But you absolutely will be using all your skills off both your swaps, and your slot skills, and at least F1 and F2 every fight.
