Hello fellow mesmers!
I’m wondering if anyone has successfully played a support-heavy, healer-type mesmer build and would like to give me some input.
I’m currently playing a conditions and boon staff build: http://tinyurl.com/c3js92s

I’m quite happy with that in PvP and WvW, but I’d love to have something more “passive” for dungeons, where I prefer playing my super healy guardian: http://tinyurl.com/covz97x

The thing is, mesmer is really my favourite class by looks, lore and everything. But I’m very much a healer type person at heart and would love to be able to play that way without having to wear heavy armor and cast blue spells.

I guess the closest a mesmer can get is by using a mantra build with Inspiration trait X? I’ve been meddling around with that and trying to get something working, but I just haven’t been able to get things right.
Any thoughts and suggestions would be much appreciated!

Here’s my build that I use at the moment and working to complete

http://gw2skills.net/editor/en/?fgUQJAWRlwziqXVTiGa9IhJF9G5neo8m7cUKue2B
Staff and GS.
Max boost in Healing Power so if you’re not yet lvl 80 or just level 80 you need to focus on equipment with the following three stats.

Power
Toughness
Healing Power

The key is not trying to pew pew damage but the be usefull for your group with your heals and support tools. (boon/condition bouncing/ Ethereal fields and your healing stuff)

In staff try to put a Sigil of Superior Water (Water is the keyword for the lower levels ones) This up to 30%, for the Superior one, grants you on use of a skill a chance for an aoe heal proc for your allies. It does pop quite oten. It’s not a 5000 heal proc of course but every bit of healing helps in GW2.

The hic is that for our exotic set we have to be very lucky or spent our gold on the TP. The set to use with this build is the Mhenlo exotic one and only drops from loot it seems. On the bright side it already has the Dwayna rune on it so it’s not all bad.
I’m going to be honnest and went for the P2W way to get my set.

Your heals will come from
Sigil proc
Phantasm granting regeneration to allies
Regeneration granted from Chaos Armor from combo on your Ethereal fields
Regeneration granted from Rune of Dwayna
Mantra of pain charging. (up to 2875 for me at the moment)

I can’t check you link as it says bad link for me.

As gameplay I try to keep 2 phantasm and the staff clone, for the bounce up ,as long and as often as possible meanwhile, when in healing mode, spam mantra of pain (2 casts, charge, 2 casts, charge again, …)
Mantra of pain is some nice extra damage while being a decent heal (at the moment 2875 for me the heal)
Not fogetting my Ethereal fields of course (chaos storm, Null field, Feedback and Time Warp)
Don’t go for the heal mantra as mantra of pain is enough for this kind of gameplay.

A lot to tell and everyone has to find his/her way and gameplay I presume.
It’s a busy bee build and way of playing but when it works it’s “Magic”.

Hope this helps you out a bit Velkyn

fixed link (I hope)

- Phantasms grant regeneration to allies (Inspiration 15)
- Heal allies when casting Mantras (Inspiration 20:X)
- Remove a condition when you heal (Inspiration 10:IV)
- Heal when you shatter (Inspiration 30:XII)
- iDefender (utility)
- iWarden (focus)
- iDisenchanter (utility)
- Less damage while casting Mantra (Duelling 10:VI)
- Mantra recharge 20% faster (Duelling 20:VII)
- Arcane Thievery (utility) + Signet of Inspiration (utility)
- Regeneration when <75% HP (Chaos 5)
- Bouncing attacks have one additional bounce. (Illusions 20:VII)

But personally, I switched from Tank/ Support build to Bleed/ Heal

Nretep

You only need mantra of pain who’s on 1s cd so no need for any extra mantra cooldown reduction.
I disagree for the healing on shatter as you have to keep your phantasm’s up for the regeneration granted to allies and your staff clone is too important to get shattered. Also to heal on shatter isn’t good enough to justify loosing your phantasm.

My thoughts of course.

Those are possibilities, not necessarities.
If you want to heal with Mantra of Pain, you could do it. But you sacrifice a utility slot and “remove a condition on heal”, since it doesn’t trigger on it.
I think stealing a 30 mins buff (there are still some mobs with it) and give it to your party is as useful.
I also haven’t tested the “heal a small amount when shatting”. But since resetting is so cheap, you could test all traits.

Thanks for all your replies. I fixed my links to tinyURL ones and hope they work now.

Nidwin, I’m quite happy to see that my trait points are only slighty different than yours, so I just need to re-slot things in order to try out your suggestions. Sounds very much like what I had in mind but was unable to produce. That really helped a lot, thanks a million.

The tradeskill gear that corresponds to Power/Healing Power/Toughness should be Cleric’s XXXXXX, I think.

could one of you heal mantra mesmers potentially compare it to an ele?
i mean are we talking omg 3x aoe water field burst heal, which brings the whole team from 0-100 or is it more of a minor but steady heal? i haven’t looked too much into the healing capacities of the mesmer, but i am interested.

With 200 healing power (i.e. no healing equipment), I’m finding each mantra cast heals for ~15% health I think? Not in front of the home computer right now to pay attention. So minor but very steady. You can keep it up with Mantra of Pain every 6 seconds indefinitely in combat, as it’s available for recast once the charges wear off. I’m very curious how it will turn out when completely decked in Cleric’s equipment.

To my surprise, the Restorative Mantras trait has no target limit. Just used it in a Claw of Jormag zerg. Everyone within a close range of you will be healed. And it healed me for ~10% of my health.

I currently play with Inspiration X and I find it very good in a dungeon (groupe pve).

Beside of it you have seriously strong combo field and useful skills (Feedback, Focus skills that reflect, …) that do not let you lot of time to auto-attack. Basically auto-attacks you would do are replaced by casting either your healing mantra or your damaging mantra which has 1 sec recharge time.

I can’t compare as I’ve never played an Ele and I avoid making an opinion based on tooltips.

Mantra healing on my Mesmer (mhenlo set equipped)
around 1400 Heal Power (more or less)

The number I remember clearly because it was an easy one.
Mantra Heal on a Guildie in WvsW , Engeneer dps specced and I think he’s around 18 000 hps -> 2875 heal

I don’t know the formule so I’m not going to guess anything. It’s also hard to check properly and the combat logs are useless at the moment.

Now that I’m thinking it could be interresting to test the use of the healing mantra in combination with the (6) from the Rune of Dwayna.

Also, someone knows when we grant regeneration to allies if it takes our stats (healing power) into account or the stats from the one getting regeneration from us?

I can understand that when it’s granted to chaos armor after a ehtereal combo to an ally it takes that ally’s stats. But when it comes directly from us it “could” make sense our stats being taken into account.

I believe regeneration is like Protection. It can’t stack, only be there or not. So it recovers like 1% of the users HP.
But I haven’t tested it.

It doesn’t stack in intensity but it’s possible it stacks in duration. Something to check.

From GW2 wiki
Regeneration is a boon which heals for a small amount of health per second and stacks in duration. The healing applied by regeneration is determined by the following formula (where x = roughly 0.1258, but unconfirmed):

1.625*Level + x*Healing Power per second

So let’s say for me it would be something around
1.625 * 80 + 0.1258 * 1400
130 + 176.12
-> 306 healing per second (edit and corrected, polio Nidwin)

I’ll have a look tonight about the healing numbers I’m getting from regeneration
