RIght now Im having 3 big problems with mesmers;
- Movement speed; Runes of the centaur cut into my build and they are too expensive
- Condition cleanses; I feel like I dont have enough, this is from someone coming from Eles and guardian, necros cast 5-6 conditions every a couple of seconds and I cant do nothing but watch my beautiful princess die to them
- Tagging In PvE. By the time phantasm pop out the stuff are dead.
Please help, how could I solve this?!
1. You either need to run Centaur runes, use a focus, or become really proficient at blink/phase retreat antics.
2. You have a number of options here. You could run Melandru or Hoelbrak runes and use Lemongrass Poultry soup, you could run traited torch, or you could pick up some of the other condition removal traits. Also, you’ll probably want to run either null field or arcane thievery given how dominant conditions are right now.
3. Tagging can be pretty rough; I find that sticking at the front of the pack with sword gives me the best results.
1- If you are planning to run a long distance, take a focus on your inventory and put both sigils of Inspiration and Midnight. Whenever you’re going to fight just put the utilities you use and change focus for your OH weapon, in case you need it.
Otherwise, out of combat speed is one of mesmer’s weakness. We have to learn dealing with it.
2- Condition cleanses is definitely our weakness point, that’s why nowadays you cannot see any mesmer in High level sPvP. But there’re some options: Null Field with glamour trait, Arcane Thievery (a more PvP skill), use sigil of generosity or sigil of purity, Menders of Purity… But start thinking you will not be able to clean conditions as an ele or guardian.
3- For tagging, I recommend you to pop up first the phantasms, and then use the other skills. It only takes like 2 seconds to phantasms to attack since you start summoning them. But again, this is one of the small weaknesses we have: We cannot have a huge burst in a short time. We focus more on wearing the enemy.
I think the issue of speed has been covered.
Regarding condition cleansing, if properly specced, a Mesmer can outcleanse pretty much anything. Phantasmal disenchanter is our single strongest condition remover, removing 2 conditions every 4 seconds with the side benefit of ripping as many boons. Mantra of resolve is another extremely strong condition cleanse, removing 2 conditions per charge for a total of 4 every 20 seconds. You can also trait mender’s purity to remove conditions on heal, and combine that with the heal mantra for double tap on removal.
Mesmer has fantastic condition removal, but it doesn’t happen by accident, you have to go and get it.
For tagging, take greatsword + sword/focus. Between skillfull application of the iZerker, iWarden, greatsword auto attacks (which are aoe) and then getting close for cleaving sword autos and blurred frenzy, you should be able to easily tag everything. Use the fact that you can spawn a phantasm in one spot and attack in another spot to cover multiple areas at once.

1. Hmmmm, Superior Runes of the Centaur are actually fairly cheap. Good thing you do not want the Superior Runes of the Air.
2. If you use Focus, and you should since it will help with #1 as well, Cast the Warden and put the Temporal Curtain below him for some Cleansing Bolts, which are projectile condition removal. And Null Field has a high CD, but will remove a lot of conditions. Nice combo field too.
3. As mentioned, the GS is great for tagging. It also hits quickly. Don’t forget to use #3 Mind Stab, which is also a 5-target AoE. Melee players don’t necessarily appreciate you when you use #5 Illusionary Wave on targets, so use with some care.
Shattering is also AoE, and can be used to get lots of tags. GS #2 and #4 both create illusions at the target. Shatter them before they get killed for extra tagging.
The staff is good for tagging also, especially if you equip elasticity for the extra bounce. IMO
I got over my lack of movement speed a long time ago. Sometimes it costs me a kill or a death, but C’est la vie.
I never have to worry about conditions, especially when I run my torch build, because I use runes of melandru and consume a bowl of poultry and leek soup.
Centaur runes aren’t that expensive. If you want a pseudo-cheap alternative, you can run 40% boon duration runes (2x sup water + 2x sup monk + 2x maj monk/water/sanctuary) and go as far down Chaos as is possible with your build (and trait focus if possible), this will give you (near) 100% uptime with just the focus.
