Help me: Mesmer Crafting
Only real reason to take up crafting is for ascended gear.
Take Light Armor.
Take Either the one that produces staves, scepters, focus etc, or Weaponsmith for a Greatsword. In fact eventually take both.
You can google gw2 crafting guide to give you the best meant to reach 400-500 and how much it’ll cost you (its not cheap).
Well, no PvE or WvW mesmer builds call for Celestial gear, so you don’t have to craft anything unless you want Ascended gear.
For Ascended gear, you’re likely to want (on any character — doesn’t have to be you rmesmer), in priority order:
1. Weaponsmith or Artificer (covers Greatsword + Sword + Shield, and Staff + Scepter + Focus, respectively)
2. Tailor (for armor — less “bang for your buck” than the weapon-crafting ones, though)
3. Huntsman (Torch + Pistol — these are off-hands only)
Don’t really have to rush, though. You can level some through crafting but it’s not very gold-efficient compared to just buying stuff with karma or on the TP.

I am almost in the same position as OP, with my elementalist as my very first character in this game for which I originally picked tailor, artificing as crafting disiplines. I later changed from tailor to chef (for food buffs) and weaponsmith as I came to use more and more dagger in my build. I bought a third crafting license (gem store) as this was my first char and I didn’t have any plans to make more.
Now I am levelling up an mesmer (right now at 20) and I found out that you will have access to crafting disciplines independent of your first characters crafting. You will be able to use your bank deposit for collecting materials to be used from crafting station (and transfer between characters by banking vendors), so you would probably be best off with artificing and tailor on your elementalist and transfer what you need for your mesmer or the other way around. Chef is also needed if you want to make the Legendary staff Bifrost as you will need to level up and make dye for Gift of Color [url=https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Gift_of_Color].
I would suggest for OP to take a look into what kind of material that is needed for ascended weapons and crafting disciplines, do also look into Black Lion TP for what can be bought if you wouldn’t craft it by yourself.
To ASP: thank your for your list. It make it easier to see what I need to have in crafting for you my own mesmer as Pistol are something new for me to use.
Crafting I wouldn’t worry about for anything unless you’re making ascended like mentioned above.
I’d also say go for the weaponsmithing, artificing and huntsman first then go for something like tailoring. Ascended armour is only really worth it for lvl 50 fractals and even then not needed and you can’t retrieve runes from it.
I would always recommend crafting weapons first and making sure you have ascended trinkets, they make a big difference.
If all you want is exotics, well you don’t need to craft anything, just buy from the TP or with dungeon tokens.
Only celestial stuff I crafted for my mesmer, the most accessible and decent purple shield imo. I got the rest of the weapon covered in purple already
