Hidden Cat--Still Viable?
Anything with PU in it offers the survivability Mesmers need in the current meta to work, more or less.
I’m running this in WvW atm

Actually running crippling dissipation in WvW. Helps to further cc cleave spam warriors and the like. Trait choices are just picking between more damage vs more mobility.

Why would you run with focus when not using reflection and not run with a torch when you use PU?
Personally I run 20/20/30 in WvW most of the time nowadays but choose different skill and weapon set than Hidden Cat (traits for mind wreck dmg, sword and staff). Stats are very similar to Hidden Cat. Its still viable in solo combat and quite fun in raids too. Not as much on the spot dps kittenter which require a good raid to support it but considerably better survivability and a perfect flanking skirmisher. I cant even begin to count how many backliners I have disrupted by suddenly popping up in an explosion of fabulous Mesmer glory. Cant handle single targets as good as my stealthing zerker Thief in the same role, but its superior against small groups and have better tools to combat zergs.
The only flaw my variant of Hidden Cat has is that when using the staff, you’ll have problem hunting down runners. Not much problem against zergs, but solo sort of assume that the enemy actually want to fight or outnumber you. I think Greatsword is a decent weapon, but I cant trait for it (would require dropping either torch trait or 10 points in prec/tough, which loose either clone dodge or PU. None of these options are good). If only going for offense when running in a zerg, its ok… Unfortunetly I find myself outmanned more often than not, lol. The difference in defense is actually quite noticable.
Sidenote: I find it amusing that kitten t er is censored. Shattercat then. That’s allowed :/

It’s simple. You only need as much survivability as you need to survive. Everything else beyond that should be funneled into offence. So either more/raw damage, or mobility which is as good for survive as it is for pursuit.
More specifically, traited focus is nice, but the reflects are unnecessary. You also have more than enough swiftness that you don’t need the reduced cd. Then of course you have the curtain interupt/pull into iWarden summon + iLeap to blurred frenzy combo (3s imob with food) for 10k damage, + shatter after that if you want. Torch for PU? It’s amazing (believe me when I say ive been running it since launch, and only picked up offhand sword in the last month). But if you can supply enough stealth from other sources and still get the job done, then you can drop it.
One small thing I’ve found with a scepter/sword setup (forgoing torch in the entire build) is that the blocks are there to fill the gaps where you’d otherwise be spamming stealth. But, use whatever, doesn’t bother me. Take what you need to survive. Take what you need to win.

I’ve run the 0/6/6/2/0 version with Harmonious Mantras in WvW and SPvP (mostly to get used to shorter-range fighting in WvW). I like it a lot. Traited Blink and MoR condition cleanse make it a very slippery build. I switch up utilities constantly to match the group size.
Here’s my build (yes, I’m running cheap food unless it’s big-deal guild raid night; way better than cheaping out by not running food at all).
PU builds points in Domination also still seem viable, as far as I can tell. The latest couple of patches really didn’t change much.
