How The Hell!!
Level 1-10 – easy as kitten
Level 11-20 – brace yourself
Level 21-40 – boring and weak as kitten
Level 41+ – back to easy as kitten
Endure. That is all. Go full berserker and try – try so very hard – to enjoy yourself as you level up. I recommend crafting.
Crafting no longer gives you the same since the nerfed it. So if do it I have to go from the start till the end.
Crafting two professions only gives you ~14 levels now. Still worthwhile.
Also this thread should be very helpful to those new to the Mesmer class.

Ok, so on this mesmer forum, there are a massive amount of resources for people learning the class.
You can join the Official Mesmer Forum Guild [OMFG] here. This is a guild full of mesmers that are available for questions or advice at all times.
You can look at a comprehensive mesmer guide here. That guide contains an incredible amount of good solid information about the mesmer class.
You can look at a PvE specific leveling guide here. That guide is specific to PvE leveling, and does a good job of explaining and helping things along.
The full build list/guide list can be found here, or you can look in the stickied section of the forum.
Use a staff as ur main weapon, sceptre/sword or sword/pistol as ur swap set and choose decoy as ur first utility followed by nullfield and probably blink. Mirror images is also very handy to get an early shatter on a mob. Keep your distance as you attack, shatter when u can (but try to let phantasms get an attack off first ^^) and aim primarily for power stat gear.
Anything which boosts ur damage will also tend to boost ur survivability as you will be exposed to danger for shorter periods of time. In the early stages, sigil of precision is better than bloodlust as it scales differently and raises your crit rate a lot compared to the attack gain from bloodlust (this is especially noticeable if u take the 15 trait in duelling- sharper images).
Don’t overlook food etc as they can provide a cheap boost.
Apart from that, just try to stay alive/ one step ahead of the enemy ^^
P.s. at 40, it gets better.
I’m guessing it’s worth levelling to 80 then.
Dunno, personally, I think that levelling a Mesmer (I’m currently level 38) is much easier than levelling a Engi . Its quite difficult to die as a Mesmer and while the damage output is not great, I can easily take huge packs of mobs. Mesmers are amazing in avoiding damage. I am using GS + SW/X, where X is focus/sword/pistol depending on the mood.

Use the “skill scrolls” for some support utilities and join zergs in WvW. Probably not as fast as PvE, but more fun!
WvW Roaming with Mesmer
Hello Mesmer’s I am a engineer venturing on the purple side of life.
I need some advice. For awhile I have admired and like the Mesmer class. I have been beaten by mesmers in PvP and wvw. To me there my greatest fights.
So I have got the attitude can’t beat them I shall join your ranks.
My problem comes to levelling them up. My god it’s so hard.I need tips tricks and advice to get me going. Please anything to help.
champion trains…. gotten me from 1 to 40+ in a week (+- 2 hours a day )
its good experience / its good loot / its a group thing so you carry each other a bit
I was levelling my mesmer in WvW by running with zerg and trying (pretending) to be helpful.
If I was starting from scratch nowadays I would mix WvW with queensdale champion farm and some labyrinth farming.
I’d recommend a couple of options already posted, crafting, champ trains, even just running through all the maps and just snagging waypoints an poi maybe an occasional vista (skip all the hearts and long stuff for later). Another thing is be sure to at least feed your mesmer the dailies. I did that for a week or two when i didn’t feel like rolling the mesmer. I’d do all but one easy daily achievement then swap over to the mesmer to finish the daily and get all the daily xp.

I actually find Engineer more difficult to level than Mesmer! But either way I think key things to remember is illusions/phantasms will nick mob attention if world-levelling so learn to abuse them (I really think clone on dodge is especially awesome for levels), and also carry a staff at least in your bags. Whenever you need to fight a tough fight, having the staff to swap to for defense helps a bunch.
I’ve been running mine solely in the Queensdale Champ train from 20-40… it worked while not making me go nuts. Now that I’ve opened up more traits, its much easier.

My 2 main toons are a Mesmer and Engi, honestly I’ve had no problems with the mesmer. Might be slower than engi because we’re lacking aoe’s but you never die either. It’s not as fun to level as engi tho.
Both engi and mesmers were quite easy IMO.
On an engineer I was abusing Bomb Kit and especially Smoke Bomb (before the nerf) to AoE everything and not get touched.
On a mesmer I was running staff and sword/X and was able to solo Svanir’s Dome meta in Foothills without problems, but AoEing down packs required more work than on engi and I was missing 100% swiftness uptime so on higher levels I was doing WvW exclusively and made sure to do dailies to get fast XP.
Just run with a staff. I found my mesmer leveling experience to be the most fun and really not difficult at all. Enjoying yourself while you’re doing it is pretty key though. If you’re not having fun while leveling you’ll probably not have fun at 80 either.
