Protect us… Holy Song!
How are your experiences in PvE?
Protect us… Holy Song!
I main Mesmer for kitten near anything. Still manage good DE tags, with staff mainline.
What works for me is: clones on multiple targets/WoC procs/shatter.
Other 80s: Any but Warrior
DEs are all about fast burst. I do not even remember when I got anything else than gold on an event I actively participated in.
Easiest way is to get a GS, berserker gear and an build focused on shattering.
As this build works perfectly for me (normally I can tag all mobs in an event as I do enough dmg even if it is just with IP and zero clones…), I’ll share it once more:

Thanks. What you read online is not always based on personal experience. I can look up the AOE of Mesmer vs. the AOE of other classes, I can hear people’s opinions on how things seem to work, but what I really wanted was personal experiences from those who have played the class- do you feel effective in events, at least enough to be fun?
Mesmer was so very fun for me when I played one, but the things that hold me back from really spending time leveling one are the movement speed (which I got great advice for, thanks to this forum), and Dynamic Events. Honestly, I don’t care if I get a lot of loot drops, although it would be nice. But to play events and get very little from them because you get bronze, that’s… well… that’s not what I’m looking for.

It is just leveling the Mesmer that can be really disheartening.
I still remember me being a young Norn Mesmer doing the lvl15 zone boss three times without even getting bronze, till today this achievement is missing.
Same problems with other bosses including the shatterer while leveling.
Fortunately, the Mesmer was my first char, so I had no comparsion on speed of other classes (I always stick with one class till it is max level).
Back then, GS was not yet an option (it was bad before the GS patch…), but I think using a GS now for leveling might be a good option.
At 80, at least shatter specced Mesmers do fine even in DEs. I like GS a lot, so this goes hand in hand.

I couldn’t figure out why you thought a shatter would be good for Dynamic Events, and then I realized, the Greatsword clone appears right next to the enemy, and then can be immediately shattered. I was having a problem with the staff clone/phantasm needing to run to the enemy. That is brilliant and might be the missing piece of the puzzle for me. Since you can shatter every 10 secs, and the cooldown for the clone is even shorter, it’d mean at least one shatter on each pack in events, and that might be enough, with the PhantasmBerzerker and the bouncing of Mirror blade and small AOE of Mind Stab.
Man, I’m gonna have to be on top of my game to pull all that off, though.

started GW2 at early access with a ranger, leveled to 80, then rolled a mesmer (now 80). Definitely took longer to get the mesmer to 80. A lot (all?) classes out DPS me but the mesmer is so much more fun to play!!
The Berzerker will also tag a lot of mobs in DE. I run 20/20/0/0/30 for self shatter, so i tend to run in, as im getting close i pop my mirror images, then dodge roll into the mobs to get 3 clones up, hit shatter, then start strafing away, while strafing away i hit my Izerker. This usually gets me lots of sparklies
As far as dungeons go, my dps is on par or better than other people typically. However most players i notice do not gear/trait optimally for pure damage output as i do. I do not use gear with toughness, vit, etc. Purely zerker gear so im at about 15.5k health.
