How do you fight in PvE?
For solo mob (scepter/pistol) I start with iDuelist then beam + magic bulet to give time iDuelist if the mob attaks me I use block switch to staff chaos storm+ leap then the other phantasm the switch to scepter/pistol and get another iDuelist (I use the trait for bleeding on crit).
When I was leveling I mostly used the Greatsword + Staff combination.
1 Mob.
Begin auto – attacking with the greatsword from Max distance.
GS 2 then 3 then 4, when they get close GS 5. keep auto attacking while strafing or moving backwards.
If it required it or things were on cooldown staff was pretty similar, I would signet to stun after I place down Chaos Storm and I would put up my warden and 2 and autoattack. I rarely had to switch between the 2 weapons on a 1v1 normal Mob fight.
What I USUALLY did, was pull 4-6 mobs at a time. I used Defender first, zerker, sword 2 sword 3 and then staff auto + chaos storm. Worked well for me. Also feedback does wonders vs ranged mobs.
At level 80 I do so much damage I rarely pull my staff out, I use sword pistol and greatsword. GSAuto > GS2 > GS3 > GS4 > Pistol 4 > Pistol 5 > sword 2 + 1. If the mob lives that long… (They don’t). I also get lazy and don’t swap at all sometimes, just GSAuto it to death or use the duelist + sword and kill them. I don’t tend to take too much damage if any at all.
GS if i have the jump on mobs, i use #4 then #2 and dodge to create another clone, then spam #1 to apply bleeds (superior rune of earth), one i phantasm is up again i mind wrack and repeat.
if i want to run looking for loot i use focus and mass invisibility, if i get aggroed i dodge to create a clone to distract the mob and continue running.
Sword/Focus + Staff
Leap to summon a clone
Illusionary Warden
Swap at the end of the cast time, rooting the mob in the AoE
Blurred Frenzy
Swap to staff
Phase Retreat at end of BF channel
Illusionary Warlock
Chaos Storm
They’re usually dead by then – if not, Chaos Storm is giving my clones aegis, so they’ll survive a decent round of hits until the mob dies.
Very similar to Furienify above; certainly the same weapons. Except I often stick Temporal Curtain on the Warden too, if I can, and sometimes Shatter situationally.
For DEs and such with lots of allies, I switch to Torch offhand instead of Focus, to take advantage of the Prestige giving allies Chaos Armor in the presence of Ethereal fields (Chaos Storm, Time Warp, Null Field, Feedback).
For more 1v1 combat against tough mobs (also some 1v1 type PvP fights), I sometimes like to switch to Pistol offhand.
For variation, I sometimes go a more Confuse-oriented build, with Staff/Scepter+Torch.
Sometimes I just vary things up for fun. Pretty much any combination works well. The things I don’t use much are Greatsword and Sword offhand – but only because I haven’t gotten into the meat of them as much as the other weapons yet. Keen to try Greatsword again after the changes – probably more for sPvP though.
I can’t see myself ever not having Staff as primary weapon though (I have seen people using 2 dual weapon builds though). I just <3 Chaos Storm so much.
What’s your attack sequence for solo mobs?
What do you do when facing multiple mobs?
Solo mobs = Easy Mode.
If I.Warden is up…
Leap→I.Warden→Swap→Blurred Frenzy→Dodge Roll Clone→ Auto-attack then…
If I.Warden did die, Dodge Roll for another Clone & Shatter.
If it didn’t, keep swinging.
Multiple Mobs?
T.Curtain→Pull→Leap→I.Warden→Swap→Blurred Frenzy→Dodge Roll Clone → Staff Swap → Shatter → Escape → Dodge Roll Clone → I.Warlock → Chaos Storm.

Me, i tend to start with Phase retreat, followed by Phantom Warlock, then go into WoC spam normally they die fast, if they dont Phase Retreat is normally back up so use that and go again
If its a elite then i go a bit different – First popping Mirror Images with Sword/Pistol combo, then use Magic Bullet, Phantom Dualist and then Blurred Frenzy can always use Illusionary Leap and swap to Staff if they hit hard Phantom Dualist does silly damage (think the most powerful phantom we have?) so normally they die fast
If its a mob, tend to open with Phase Retreat, Phantom Warlock and then pop Chaos Storm and then spam WoC into them
Open with Greatsword. Use #1. Dodge to create a clone. Hit #4 to summon the iZerker. Rush in to about 600 or so and hit #2 to get the might buff. Use #3. Then shoot for a bit. The mob is usually dead. I’ll shatter if there’s any other mobs nearby.
If it’s a strong mob I’ll then swap weapons and summon up the iWarden, and get some hits with Sword #2.
It’s pretty straight forward.
I’ve been using Greatsword, Sword/Pistol lately and it’s working fairly well. I start with the GS and then switch to melee with Sword/Pistol. I still hate PvE as a mesmer though..
At the moment I am using Greatsword/Sword + Pistol at level 32.
On single mobs I start off with iduelist then immediately swap to Greatsword so that it happens out of combat and the timer doesn’t start on weapon swap. I then use mirror blade for the vuln/damage/might. After that I just do whatever I feel like really. The fastest way seems to be knock back followed by iberserker then swap back to sword to use sword 2 and mind wreck to finish them off.
I started using greatsword with scepter main hand and sword off-hand. I know it sounds stupid but actually having the two Blocks really helped me in PvE especially when you trait them to give you Retaliation. The off-hand sword phantasm crits well and attacks often. The scepter 3 does a good amount of damage. After your skill rotation you can simply switch to the greatsword and finish the mob off.
I use to try using sword main hand or dual-wielding swords but melee range isn’t that great for Mesmers.
I use staff and dual swords with crit/vit build. Generally I start with my S/S summons (5, 3) while running in. Then I jump to mobs with 3. Then 2 for some quick damage and 4 for block and more damage. Then I switch to staff. 2 to get range (or 5,2 if I’m not targeted) and then it’s situational but usually it’s shatter and resummon time.
At level 20 I was able to solo 2x L26 mobs consistently. At L30+ with elite summon I can pull 3-4 at a time without much trouble.
Vit is not required but it makes your life easier. If you have good gear you can pump points into power instead.
