How do you hit a mesmer?
The answer is that we are indeed very hard to catch, haha.
You need to make sure you have enough CC or gap closers. But most mesmers run glass cannon. So one good hit is enough to make them panic. We still have very little condie clear unless we go for inspiration line. So immbo is really strong on mesmer.
However, if the mesmer runs PU, he will not die if he decides to disengage. Also it is the best if you play some mesmer youself. It is a good time to try one! After the patch, the class gets much easier and newbie friendly.
CC conditions hurt – immobilise, chill, cripple, weakness.
I thought thieves were irritating. Mimic double blinks, decoy, trait decoy, stealth for days, and ALL THE STUNBREAKS! Maybe I should just ask the mesmers. How does anything actually catch you guys? I swear it’s easier to catch water with a net some times.
Depends. In WvW if you are roaming and mesmer decides to disengage and run away, then there is nothing you can do, just like thief, if a mesmer stays fights and dies, then he decided to do so. You cant catch them because tehre is just too much space in every direction.
Now in SPVP, I have been particularly overall successfull at killing both thieves and mesmers on my necro and my engi. My necro is runnign staff / wells, condi, life trasfers, all AOE. So clones become irrelevant they die very quick often before shatters, phantasms live but not too long. Because of the space limitation in SPVP I can cover an area and still hit the mesmer or thief, especially cause of capture points, I dont care if mesmer or thief runs away, I get my points, its a win.
On my engi I have been runnign a condi burn build and flamethrower lately, this is really the hard counter build to mesmers, clones and phantasms die in fraction of a second and stealth or not, you take damage.
On my war / guard I cant do mesmers that easily because their AOE is mostly melee range, but its still very effective against thieves, who are also melee.
Also, jsut FYI another hard counter to the power / crit mesmers is a tanky condi mesmer. Though the fights last a long time due to all the stealth.

Yup. Just like a Thief. Bunker down (don’t literally stand still, please, you’re just going to kill yourself) and prepare to hit back. If they’re running a cheese or whittle build, they can probably escape. Otherwise they’re downed and you just need to find a way to stomp them.
What Esplen and Tongku said. Mesmers set up to be evasive can do well at 1v1 harassment, but they cannot win the fight.
So bunker down. And hit objectives. Rezz each other whenever the Mesmer(s) try to attack, they won’t be able to make a dent.
Fighting a mesmer has become a lot more like fighting an ele: you need to keep track of their abilities, bait their defenses, and time your bursts to take advantage of their cooldowns. I was dueling a Rampage warrior a bunch today and basically one of two things happened when he popped Rampage:
1. I was dead.
2. I kited him near-effortlessly for 20 seconds and then afterward he’d usually explode.
What made the difference? Whether he’d already forced me to pop Blink by using a regular ol’ hammer cc chain.
Alternatively, there are quite a few mesmer builds that are soft to conditions (anyone in Inspiration is very, very resilient to conditions, however). Just put a bunch of Burning/Torment/Confusion on them and gg.
