I found a part of mhenlo’s armor set and I liked the description. So I bought the whole set and made a mantra build with the Restorative Mantras trait to have some group healing in addition to the regeneration I put on allies through dwaynas runes.
However, I never saw a heal effect trigger on allies… I was watching the party screen closely and neither when I prepared the mantras nor when I triggered them I healed allies. So did I miss smth.?

I’ve been experimenting with it lately. It’s hard to measure because it doesn’t seem to show up in combat logs, and I never see any healing unless I’m actually injured.
It does seem to work on me, so I assume it also works on party members. The effect triggers when you finish charging a mantra (not when you use the charges). I see it when my health is low and I’m recharging a mantra – I get a heal that’s over 2000 points, so I notice it.
The only way I think you could prove it’s working in a group is to have at least one other person in your party stand right next to you. Then let yourselves get damaged enough so you’ll see the healing when the mantra recharges. You’ll need to still be in combat when this happens to notice the effect.
You have to be with in a certain range… It works. And I use it a lot in certain dungeon situations… I try to just tell my group to stay around me and I Spam MOP the entire fight and I can get almost 3k heals off in my entire party.

I stopped bothering using them in pvp, their heal power is very low for a spell that takes more then 3 secconds to cast. So unless you run a group that moves tightly together, which you dont want in pvp, so they are kinda useless.

I disagree, you use them in combination with other abilities and if you use a good build and know when and how to use them they can be very useful even in pvp.
The healing only happens when the channel of a mantra ends, which is equivalent to when a normal skill would be cast. Each mantra heals for 2600 + 0.2 x (healing power), at level 80. I think it has a 240 radius, but I’m not sure.

The healing only takes affect at the end of the channel, as Kasama said, not during the actual skill use. It’s actually a much better trait to use with Mantra of Pain since you can spam the channel and activation very quickly. And if you absolutely need regeneration for whatever reason, your staff 3 phantasm should pulse it due to the Phantasmal Healing trait.
Also I wouldn’t invest any healing power into a build that uses it. You get terrible returns for ir. Best to use it if you need to be an off-healer while you dps.
