I know Mesmers aren’t doing well in s/tPvP currently, but how are we currently in WvW for roaming solo or with a small group? I’ve never really tried WvW before, but would like to find something to do with my Mesmer while waiting for us to become more viable in PvP.

I prefer shatter, though I know PU is commonly run. Are both viable? Can we clear camps easily? Are we still thief food? If my friend is running a thief, would a Mesmer pair well with it for roaming?

I wanted to get some opinions before I start gearing my Mesmer for WvW, thanks!

Loving roaming as a mesmer at the moment. We have lots of escape abilities (portal/stealth/blink) and good duelling capabilities, which are important. (Travelers for bonus points escaping and moving across the map)
Lots of team utility in fights so great for small groups too.

PU is probably the most viable roaming build at the moment due to survivability, (I’d probably put hybrid PU being the best) but shatter is also fine if you want a higher burst at the cost of survivability.

Camps are ok to clear, not necessarily easily. Lack of aoe etc. But still not much of a problem, can be done in 1-2 minutes. Less if youre better than me xD. We are no longer thief food you shall be happy to hear, if we ever were, although condi thieves may cause you some problems (Read- conditions in general). And a thief/mesmer pair works very well together.

TLDR: Mesmer is epic at roaming

Roaming solo or with a small group is pretty much the only thing mesmer remains good at in the game.

They both are viable, but you’ll get squished pretty easily with shatter if you run into a couple thieves or a roaming group. If you’re roaming as part of a small group, shatter works very well.

Pretty much all builds clear camps just fine. Shatter builds are thief food, while thieves are food for PU builds. Thieves and mesmers of any build pair very well.

Pyro makes a good point that shatter is kinda hard countered by thieves. Hopefully someone who is currently using a hybrid PU build will post more up to date stuff, but its really 2/4/6/2/0 GS+ sw/p with a mix of berserker and rabid gear.
