I was saving up skill point scrolls to grab this, as my mesmer is still only 28, but then I realized it could actually be a horrible skill. Before I work any closer to this, how is this skill for a PvE mesmer?

Honestly, you’d be better off getting other slot skills first. Ether Feast is great (especially with PvE) and really at level 28, you can just do more damage with other slot skills. You also could save up for elites and get veil instead of Signet of Ether

Signet of the ether is an amazing heal for a PvE mesmer. I highly recommend saving up for it as soon as you can.

yeah i can recommend it in pve aswell. i tested it in other game modes but id say in pve it works the best. i wouldnt recommend it in wvw though as the cooldown is too long for large scale fights where it is nearly imppossible to keep up illusions.

I don’t play PvE often, but when I do, I focus on phantasm builds. I also run it in most of my condition/tanky specs in pvp. Overall, it has a lot of sustain, so I’d recommend it.

Skill points for other utilities can be easy to farm in all the low level areas if you really need them.

As the others have said, it works very well if you run a Phantasm build, although I find that it sometimes puts me into situations where I need a clutch heal and Signet of the Ether just doesn’t cut it. (e.g. I just came out of a tough fight against multiple Vets, am dying to conditions, but since enemies are dead, I’m not getting any healing). Sooo, I mainly switched back to Ether Feast.

I do use Signet of the Ether underwater though, where for some reason clones/phantasms just seem to live a lot longer and the 3D arena means I can usually keep out of range of any nasty lingering effects.

It’s not great but it’s not horrible either. Any mesmer build that doesn’t shatter much like phantasm builds and staff clone builds can utilize it very well.

It’s still not great though and even in ideal situations ether feast is most likely better, just not by a whole lot.

You can easily get to 80 with Ether Feast instead and use those points in other skills. Mesmer have a lot of really good Utility skills so you might as well spend it on them. (Blink, Decoy, Null Field, Feedback, Arcane thievery, Mirror Images just to name a few of the ones i use more often)
