How much fun is mesmer on lvl 80?
After leveling my mesmer to 80, which was my first 80, it took me something like six months to level another character to 80. Mesmer has always been my main and is still my primary choice. The play style, somwhat similar to Ele, is very mobile and active. To bring the mesmer’s full potential to bear takes a fair amount of skill and build knowledge. It’s that challenge that attracts many to the class. That and we kill people with pink butterflies.
Also, careful with Sunrise and mesmer. I read the GS legendary animations on mesmer are lacking.

It’s pure awesome.
My first toon was a guardian, and I got tired of it after a while. It’s slow and boring to play tbh. My second was a necro, and once you’re in a fight, you’re committed, which gets really tiresome after a while.
Theeen I finally leveled my mesmer, after having deleted several mesmer attempts at level 14, 9 and 7. And I love it! You can do condi builds, you can do burst builds. You can get out of fights, you can initiate spectacularly well. In short, the mesmer is absolutely great. The only thing I only ever do is solo roam, and for that job, it’s the bomb!
Ah, my experience is that there’s always been many complaints on the Ele forums. We should really have someone on suicide watch over there.
End game is pretty awesome. Where Ele can get by on straight skill rotation, Mesmer is all about reacting to the circumstances we are engaged in. This allows for a broad array of builds to be viable. Just the fact that [OMFG] is able to host a build competition demonstrates the variety of builds available.
So far as weapons go, they all have their place. Given our swiftness issues (we can be slow if not geared for movement speed), many find the focus to be a “must have” weapon. Even when swiftness isn’t a concern, I still find myself using it often because of the aoe pull. And if traited, it reflects projectiles, which is awesome.
The utilities are really unique compared to other classes, so much that we’re often requested for them. Compared to other classes, I switch utilities on the fly on my Mesmer very frequently. This isn’t required of other classes. Also, if you’re big into WvW, you’ll find a lot of times you’ll need specific utilities to get the job done. There are times where I feel frustrated and wish I could be left to play my class as I see fit, but that’s what havoc play is for. For dungeons, one mesmer makes a big difference, but having more than one does not.
A few caveats: we are generally slow, but there are ways around that. Leveling is a pain, but endgame is rewarding. The learning curve is steep, but once you have a firm grasp on it, you’ll be something to be feared.
Finally, in the words of Crossplay.2067: “The versatility of our powers seems limitless as long as we are constantly thinking, ‘I wonder what would happen if I did this?’”

Mesmer is amazing :o.
I just have trouble staying on any other peofession for more than 2 hours before i start craving for mesmer again :P.
I only have 3 lvl80s atm, a mesmer, a warrior with 70 crafting levels and another mesmer! I never use the warrier and second mesmer though.
I also have a third mesmer as pvp character, so its easier to switch to condi builds :D.
Judging by other profession forums, Mesmer seems to be amongst the best.
Some claim there is “one optimal build to rule them all”, but its really just a matter of playstyle!
In all pve group play builds you should always try to fit 20 inspiration(support line) in, to get alot of important support options. The best thing about this is, by going in the support tree you dont lose damage, in fact, you gain damage. In 25 inspiration is one of our most important damage traits ;).
In pve, there are many support/damage hybrids, boon support builds etc that are viable. Usually they will give you an unfinished trait template, where you can freely allocate the last trait points to your liking.
At one point in a Mesmer’s live, they will realise “Oh, never thought I could get so much use out of a useless weapon!”
Carry all of them with you, really.
The sword, greatsword and focus will probably be most important though.

Not to mention we get to play hide-and-seek in keeps in wvw where there was a failed attempt to take it. It’s quite entertaining to tie up an entire zerg for twenty or more minutes with your fellow “ARC” mesmers. Certainly this task is made easier with a fellow thief but wvw is often chaotic and thieves and zergs don’t often mix.
It’s interesting just how versital mesmers are in wvw. We can easily flow from zerging, to roaming, to scouting, to infiltration without more than a few utility changes. It’s a bit surprising you don’t see more of us in wvw. Granted, the reality is that wvw is laden with necros and guardians cuz it’s easy tags.

the reason i play the game. its the only class i enjoy everywhere
I started playing my Mesmer on release. Have logged in every day. One year and counting later, it’s still the only character I play

Hey,
I want to know how much fun mesmer is on the endgame? Right now I play an ele and it´s very entertaining, only problem is that at the moment ele needs a big buff(just watch the QQ on the ele forums and how ANet ignores us).
Besides that I´m about to get my first legendary and I love sunrise, unfortunately eles can only wear 4 weapons(staff, scepter, dagger, focus) -.-So I was thinking about getting a mesmer. What I really love about mesmers are the variety of their supporting skills: teleport, portal, timewarp, invisibility, reflections, walls etc. and I think it´s a very unique class, pretty popular on my server(Elona Reach). Besides that you can equip them with a lot of weapons(greatsword, sword, focus, pistol, staff, torch etc.).
So, how much fun is mesmer at the endgame? How about the variety of builds? Are there any “must have weapons” for mesmers? How about the motivation to play them after you reach 80 – are they still fun?
Thanks and have a nice day
2000 hours playtime.
I m not a fan of having alts but since anet pvp balance pushed me away from ele after 1000 hours of play i leveled a mesmer and i almost only play it nowaday.
Leveling mesmer is the most boring thing on the planet maybe…once it get to 80 things changes.
You have:
Shatter build that plays quite similar D/D ele. (but its not so good in dungeon/fractals imho)
Phantasm build that plays exactly opposite to ele D/D but its really fun and effective once you get it…does everything in PvE dps+support+reflect and its a lot reaction based rather than rotation based like shatter or D/D ele.
Also you have lot of utility that are really useful to swap in game.
p.S: imho must have weapon is sword….because its fun (really strong also)
A PvE player is supposed to avoid a 1-2 second 1 shotting aoe.
A WWW player is considered uncapable of avoiding a 5,75 second aoe for half his health.

To be honest, my history:
Started mesmer,
played mesmer,
played engineer,
played mesmer,
played necro,
played mesmer,
played thief,
played mesmer,
played ele,
played mesmer,
played engineer,
played mesmer,
. . .
Mesmer is by far the funniest way to enjoy this game. He can do so many things, allrounder Engineer is great too, but the others are “boring” in general compared to messi
“Mentoring engineers / mesmers and showing you what you can do with your fantastic class!
Just pm me for my advice! Always eager to help!”
I have a guardian, mesmer, and engineer. Mesmer is by far the most fun, you feel like you always have something to contribute (even when things get zergy), and certain shatter builds can burst people down just as fast as a thief. Leveling to 40 is a pain, but after that it’s much easier.

So, mesmer is more fun than ele? I have a warrior on 80, a ranger on 80 and of course my elementalist on 80 and I love to play with my elementalis, because it requires more skill.
Thanks for your help guys. I ´ll start a mesmer today
