How solo friendly are mesmer/chrono vs necro?
Well, squishier in that there are no damage mitigation traits – for example like the protection and regen you get in Chaos.
Every chrono trait is geared offensively (edit: apart from the 25% reduction on cripple/chill/immobilise from the movement speed minor), generally frequent shattering is encouraged (for alacrity), although you can pair it with lines like Inspiration and Chaos if you want to go for something tanky.
But if you learn to use CSplit effectively, you can get a lot out of it.

Well, I can’t speak much to Necro, but I have seen videos of a mesmer soloing a lot of level 50 Fractals content. Link to these videos below:

Some of this stuff is based on not only how well a mesmer can solo a fight, but also on how they can get past certain mechanics with the use of teleports/portals. A good example of this is how a mesmer can solo the 3 whisps in Fractals when I’m pretty sure this is impossible for Necro.
A good solo test is to go against veteran karka with their variety of attacks and massively annoying evade combat. Chronomancer didn’t really improve my kill times but it did improve survivability (which to be honest I don’t think the mesmer needs).
Reaper on the other hand is a monster and had no issues solo’ing 2 vet karka at the same time.
Mesmer PvE damage is garbage, and your illusions in verdant brink will be cleaved down upon spawn.
Reaper damage is not reliant on high ramp up phantasm counts, paper thin AI, and it doesn’t go away like clones/phantasms do when the mob you’ve casted on dies (meaning that if you fight against a mob pack, your mesmer phantasms die if the mob you cast them on dies and you’re left fighting other mobs with kitten damage).
On the other hand, mesmer RECOVERY (a large part of sustain) is better than necromancer/reaper.
Reaper/Necromancer heals suck. Once you lose HP gaining it back under pressure is difficult as your heals don’t fill your HP pool at all and are on long cooldown, have longer cast times than mesmer heals, or don’t heal for much (like the shout heal).
Reaper is more glassy. Mesmer can get out of sticky situations easier than reaper due to AI distracting mobs while you heal up safely, using clones to bodyblock projectiles.
Reaper has way better damage and more damage spike absorption, but the chrono has better damage EVASION/AVOIDANCE but much, much less DPS.Chronomancer has more group utility than reaper.
Another important feature is that chronomancer has a 25% run speed trait built in. The reaper needs to pay a utility slot in signet of the locust to have 100% uptime run speed, as the warhorn swiftness is not 100% uptime and comes at the cost of not using the offhand focus.

It was so bad when I was against huge groups, huge aoe and Wyverns.
You either try to shatter right away or use Protected Phantasm to secure the first phantasm hit before it dies in AoE.
As for solo, both and any classes can do it. Mesmer sustain damage is just harder to pull.
