I’m interested in some (unbiased) opinions on how strong Chronomancer, or Mesmer in general, is.
I don’t own HoT so I’m playing this for now. Dying a lot but still fun nontheless. I’m a roamer by heart and so I duel a lot. I met many Chronomancers and I have yet to win against one – be it sword/shield power or some condi-variant. I like to talk to my enemies, and many said that it’s a learn-2-play issue for me. That Chronomancer takes skill and is not that easy, or that they are just better than me. That they played core mesmer before and (core shatter) is not that any more difficult.

In the past I just created class x and got to know each skill and played it before I got salty with the player, but this time I can’t because I did not buy HoT. It’s very difficult for me to judge a build, if I lack experience.

This game is not made for 1v1 of course, but on that basis, how strong is power chrono and condi chrono in this setting, and how forked am I as a core mesmer?

In sPvP, condition chrono is your only build option. Don’t even fantasize about going in there on a vanilla build, much less power shatter.

In WvW, power shatter chrono is possible but condition builds are stronger. Vanilla can only compete with PU condi.

Chrono is powerful, as are all elite specs.

There are a few more things to learn, yes.

Drop illusions for inspiration as most of the time you’ll need the condition clears vs mesmer as condition mesmer is currently more popular. I’d also think about switching staff to sword torch in a lot of matches as it offers better disengage.

The problem I see is that you want to duel but have little sustain and only 2×2 condition cleanses and once that’s gone you’re done for 22s in terms of cleanses. You also are playing what most would consider a burst spec too where you’re better pushing into a 1v1 to outnumber, burst the enemy down and leave to +1 another fight.

Sure against fotm mesmers you should be able to win but more experienced I wouldn’t say the fight is in your favour as a power shatter base mesmer. Needless to say try not to hit the shield bubble they do so they don’t get to use it again, try to CC and then kill. They only have 1 stun break and 2 pseudobreaks so are susceptible to hard CC.

How good is Chrono in pvp?

Pretty much a classic case of power creep™.

Just the same as with the other classes. The harsh truth? Get the expansion or get rekt.
