New mesmer here.

What is a good skill combo to do lots of AoE damage to multiple low hit point monsters quickly? Especially to tag event mobs who go down too fast to ramp up illusions.

Take illusionary persona trait to shatter yourself and mantra of pain. Mirror blade with illusionary elasticity can be pretty nice too. In my attempts to farm with mesmer I’ve found these to be best. Sigil of Fire also helps a lot

I have found the best way to get a “tag” on event mobs is to stand with the melee people. I run main hand sword with pistol or focus usually, but you don’t have time to get a phantasm off unless you’re fighting a champ. I was always pretty successful at tagging when doing the temple events in Orr.

I also run shatter in pve, but never took mantra of pain. I probably should have. I use mirror images though and shatter them as often as I can.

What level events are you talking about?

This combo:

Lay down temporal curtain so as to pull them all together and before detonating cast focus phantasm then detonate illusionary leap blurred frenzy and spam mantra of pain.

Mobs dead. Easy peazy.

This is far too slow. The op is talking about event mobs that have a life-span of 3 seconds in total.

My usual combo is Chaos Storm on the group, Mirror Images + Phase Retreat, Mind Wrack/Cry of Frustration. The Confusion ticks on the mobs will tag the survivors that don’t die in the initial burst. If the group is still alive after that, swap to Sword/Focus, drop Illusionary Warden and use Blurred Frenzy.

If the mobs are dying REALLY fast, then just stick with Blurred Frenzy/auto-attack. If you’re in a group, that’s usually sufficient to get credit.

I suggest you Mantra of Pain. Extremly underrated and together with some F1 shatter and the normal sword cleave you’ll do fine.
