How to act like a... Mesmer
don’t use auto attacks and count to 1 before using the next chain
Don’t move unnecessarily. Walk in straight lines. Attack once every 2 seconds. Don’t dodge. Randomly, stop attacking until you die…
You don’t. Skilled opponents will always recognize which is the real mesmer instantly, so you aim your playstyle to beat those skilled opponents. You use your toolkit to avoid/disengage/etc, but not to fool people.
Confusing players into thinking that you’re a clone only works against people who are new to PvP and have never played a Mesmer themselves.
There are SO many ways to tell the real Mesmer from the illusions, and most of them don’t even involve looking at what the Mesmer is actually doing. (Although if you see it dodge or cast anything other than an auto attack you know it’s the real one).
Chances are, if your opponent is having a hard time finding the real Mesmer, what you actually do doesn’t really matter that much.
Having said that though, if you DO want to act like a clone, take two steps towards your enemy and autoattack. Don’t strafe, don’t keep moving. Literally stop and auto attack. That’s what a clone does. Don’t walk while attacking either, for clones simply don’t do that.
I guess that makes sense since when I usually fight a mes I can tell except for when they’re invis or blinking to the other side of my screen, worst than a thief sometimes..
I suppose it’s that mentality of mines from playing a new class on how it’s “suppose” to be based on the description..
It’s funny how our defensive mechanic that our cooldowns, durations, and coeffients, are balanced around is a gimmick no one other than A-net devs and testers, or anyone under r20 on the old system fell for.
We can act like clones but that’s a lot of standing around. Clones could be more responsive but that’s more programming than anyone is willing to do.

Unfortunately, it’s true enough that you simply can’t act like a clone to fool anyone. ArenaNet has made sure of that. Basically, all an opponent needs to do, is to tab-target quickly. You will have buffs on you that your clones will not, guaranteed. Plus, well, the clones are made of paper and die if you look harshly at them.
The only use for clones, is to confuse really new players, or to Shatter. If you’re not playing Shatter, shatters are worthless. If your shatters are worthless, your clones are too pretty much. They deal no damage, and they die when looked harshly at. As much as I like the combat I get out of Mesmers, I find myself returning more and more to Guild Wars recently. At least our Mesmer there had some options. At least we had cool skills, skills that worked and felt rewarding to use.

They should just give every profession laser beams out of their eyes. They do no damage, but instantly disintegrate clones, so people can literally kill clones by looking harshly at them.
It will also get rid of all the tab targeting complaints vs Mesmers…
I think Illusionary Persona should hide all facts that you are not a clone. All signets, mantras are hidden whenever you are in combat and any targeting on you is removed when a clone is made.

Don’t bother wasting your time trying to act clone-like.
Anyone with decent experience will spot you no matter how hard you try.
You’re better off just spamming clones and having them explode. It’s far more effective.
Trying to determine who is who between 3 clones and you, or having clones constantly running around and exploding in your face.
Keep you and your clones moving (by shattering), in and out of stealth and porting around is the best way to confuse your opponent. Don’t try to blend in. It won’t work against majority of players.
Now we have chickens playing mesmer. Where will this class go next?
(I’m sorry. I’m not a native english speaker and I find the use of that word to describe a person quite distasteful)

Actually acting like a clone can give you 1 or 2 seconds that may make a difference in tight fights (if no one moves like the real mesmer then the enemy needs to target the clones to check for buffs). It’s best when you use a staff: just stand there and autoattack. Because the attack takes time to reach the target it’s not as noticeable where it comes from and how fast you’re casting it. But anyway it’s not really something you want to be using often. In my opinion, an improvement to the class would be for the clones to copy all the boons (also sigils, mantra charges, food, bloodlust and possibly conditions) of the mesmer on creation.

Acting like a clone will only give you 1-2 seconds against bad players…and if they’re bad players the fight shouldn’t be tight.
Would it be OP to have a 30% chance on creating a clone for all enemies targeting to the mesmer to drop target? (including the big red target sign) and then atleast our token stealth will have it’s use as a 100% drop but isn’t solely relied on? And yes PU nerfs should be properly included (like 1 boon every 2 seconds)
“Maybe I was the illusion all along!”
Yes, that would be too OP. We have that ability already, it’s called Stealth.

Could you explain why only bad players?

Against good players:
You will be targeted, either with or without a true target lock. You can’t just up and start acting like a clone, you have to drop that target first. How do you drop the target? You stealth. Unfortunately, stealthing itself targets you as the real mesmer. Clones don’t stealth, so when you enter stealth that allows your enemy to note all of the clones. Clones don’t unstealth, so exiting stealth allows your enemy to once again note you as the real mesmer.
There’s no possible situation against a good player where they won’t know the real mesmer.
Stealth. Then, stay right on the guy or somewhere close by (to prevent clone all too obviously charging at the enemy in straight line) and then use Decoy, Mirror Images, or simply dodge to proc Deceptive Evasion. Clones generated while still stealthed, enemy confused… ?
First rule of mesmering – don’t act like a clone. :p
(you can have moderate success against bad players, but it’s a waste of time/effort against good players).
What, did you think one of mesmer’s strengths was supposed to be misdirection OP?
Since apparently the devs do, and acting like a clone is about as much misdirection as a poorly labeled treasure map.
