Hi, fellow mesmer here. I was wondering how other mesmers out there deal with engineers, the class I have the most trouble with. I’ll admit I don’t understand engineers too much, but it seems like no matter what build I use, if I’m up against an engineer 1v1 I’m toast. And is it me or are they super OP in Skyhammer? :P

Just outrange them with GS if you’re shatter. Dodge grenades and the pull. Use LoS as much as possible. Using your dazes effectively is also very important to mitigate pressure from you (and also for heal interrupts). As a condi mes you shouldn’t have any problems, engis are susceptible to conditions.

Many engineer builds has limited access to stun break/stability. Not saying there aren’t any, but their kits can take up a lot of stun breakers. So diversion or mantra of distraction can be very useful against them. I play S/S+staff shatter mesmer with halting strike and it does really well against engis, I imagine interrupt builds will benefit from that as well.

As for Skyhammer…I tend to stay out of that map lol.

A few pointers:

-NIKE is right on, chain a few CC’s or interrupts with your burst and you’ll ruin an engi’s day.

-Smirgel is also correct. They’re fairly weak at condition cleanse/control. They tend to do a lot of aoe, so I get a lot of mileage out of the condi on clone death traits, even with power builds.

-They’re weak against phantasms. Staff/GS with a power build is my fav for dealing with engis. Staff has everything you need when you’re at close/med range, phase retreat will seriously save your bacon. GS gives you the upper hand at range with the high damage and instant hits (no projectile travel is a HUGE advantage).

-Learn how to get out of their CC quickly; blink, decoy and phase retreat are your friends.

-Engi is good at skyhammer, but Mes is also pretty OP. Try GS and sword/focus, build doesn’t matter much. Null field is excellent for stripping stability.

All in all I just treat them like a war or guard, burn them down from range.

sykhammer is dumb when a engi just turret up the control room. I try to knock them off that’s the only way. in wvw out range them if they pop turrets right away which is what 95% of the engis do. The very very good ones you have to time your daze or stun at the right time and burst even then it’s 50/50. On the other hand it’s next to impossible for me to die to an engi unless I screw up. I play power pu.

On skyhammer if I’m actually trying to win, I’ll only run one build: scepter/focus + gs with 20/20/30 PU traits and blink, decoy, and pDisenchanter (though the traits are mainly because I’m too lazy to change them and they work, you could trait more optimally).

I only play on the hammer platform. That allows me to control any and all fights. It puts the enemy team into a hard situation: they can either try to dislodge me (not easy) or let me rain death on the map.

Basically, engineers have extremely limited access to stability. With focus and greatsword, you can throw anyone off of any part of the hammer platform at will, letting the pDisenchanter deal with stability. I like to use temporal curtain to position them, and then swap instantly to gs to chuck them off the side with iWave. This combo instagibs just about anyone that’s already on the hammer, and can be used to instagib anyone that enters, as long as you set it up properly. Just don’t let the engineer get set up, chuck them off the side the moment they appear.

Just like Fay said, I always run a different build when running sky hammer. Don’t fight them, just knock them off. Easy and fast and very annoying.
