Hey. I´m Flux and I main mesmer. I am not a pro so there might be some aspects that I did not take in consideration. I think I have pretty good knowledge about mesmer. Here are some of my thoughts how they should improve mesmer.

I was reading about helseths thoughts in this post:

So I thought of these things to balance mesmer.

They should nerf continuum split so that it does not recharge elite cooldowns. They should reduce the CD on continuum split to make back some of the loss. This way I think continuum split would have more depth to it so that it would not be used only for the double elite what makes it too strong skill. There is really cool tricks you can do with it but they dont give enough value to use them instead of the double elite. You need to keep in mind that there is really strong utility skills too. You should keep an eye on Illusion of life so it does not get too strong. It might need some nerfs after the CD change.

For moa they should make it to give you revealed when you start casting and make the animation a bit more visible. This way it would allways have to be used with some coordinated cc. This way it would maybe have enough counter play to be balanced with the benefits you get from landing it.

For portal I am not sure how to bring its effektiveness down in conguest. There is many ways but I cant really say how they would really effect the functionality in the right way in the right direction. You could incriese the CD or reduce the range. If you reduce the range so that it cant portal you from point to point but only near the point so that it would allways give the decap but not fullcap. Or you could restrict the amount of uses to like 2. This would effect PvE and WvW scene too so I´m not sure about that. Or make it only one way portal from the mesmers direction to the other end but not back. This would change the functionality a lot in all game modes.

After these changes the mesmer would probably be too weak so it must get some big buffs at the same time you nerf these huge skills. Hopefully damage buffs cos damage is the best. But seriously. Mesmer is a bursty damage dealer with some supportive utilities. Right now I feel like mesmer is lacking sustain damage and maybe a bit burst too. Defense is in good spot in my opinion. Maybe buff shatters a bit. Make mind wrack clear any weakness on you an make cry of frustration rip 1 boon.

The main purpose for these big nerfs would be to give a net more room to buff all the other aspects of the mesmer to make it all around good and fun class.

Nerf all the strongest builds. Only a bit tho. Not too much how you tend to do. The OP things they have. Just like mesmer moa, portal and continuum split. This would bring all the less used builds closer to the golden line of not being meta or being meta. Or even viable.

I writed this a bit like for the devs. Did not notice it really but I hope they are listening there some where.

First of all, I fully agree with your Continuum Split comment. Because recharging elites is so important, using this shatter is not as fun as it could theoretically be. Lowering the CD to 60s to make up for this loss would be nice.

But I see no need for Moa or Portal nerfs. Moa has a long animation, is interruptible, and even when it connects, it’s only a guaranteed kill if two or more damage dealers focus it, all that being on an extremely long CD. It’s completely balanced, and it’s one of the only way to quickly kill a players in bunker metas. It will probably lose value with the removal of bunker amulets anyway.

As of Portal, it’s one of the most unique skill in the game, and arguably the best in Conquest. The thing is, it can’t even be considered a mesmer skill: it’s a team skill. It also rewards strategic plays: if there is one skill in the game that scales with experience, it’s this one. I think watering down the complexity of conquest and the uniqueness of mesmer is not a way to balance.

So what’s the cost? Not being able to play bunker/bruiser, ever. Bunker mesmer is a monstrosity, because Portal on a bunker build is broken. So mesmers are forced into squishy builds. And that’s completely fine! There are other professions if you want a bunker playstyle. To ensure that every class has a role in pvp, they need to play different.

Reminds me early on in the games life when Rangers were complaining about Longbow being a bad weapon so Anet nerfed shortbow range and damage and said everybody should use Longbow now.

Ranger shortbow is still crap to this day btw.

The real question you should be asking yourself is: are you having fun with Continuum Split? Because I know I’m not. Most of the time I use it to have a shorter CD on my moa. Maybe it’s a l2p issue, but even Helseth does that, so I’m not really sure it’s a lack of mechanical skill on my part.

Sure, mesmer will probably be less meta now that bunker mesmer is dead, so we should worry about unwanted nerf, but having a shorter CD Continuum Split that doesn’t recharge elites would make the game more fun in my opinion.

Oh, and Portal in the Elite slot would be nice.

Look, folks, another role-player thinking that there are “true” mesmers and “false” mesmers! You’re entitled to your opinion, but this is a forum.

You missed the point, he simply pointed out that mesmer always receive heavy nerfs because we call for them instead of calling for buffs, and post like these just contribute to the heavy bat swinged in our direction.. Portal and moa don’t need nerf bit he’s calling for them in the behalf that he knows best because he main mesmer…

STOP TRYING TO BE OBJECTIVE AND CALL FOR WHAT YOU FEEL IS JUSTIFIED NERF, call for buff on what needs it or fix on bugs please
