Does anyone have a viable, alternative build for a purely decked in berserker equips mesmer? I mean something that wouldn’t focus so much on shatters, even perhaps act as a support/control instead of purely DPS?
Flimp has a good Condition/Tank build, with a few adjustments of traits and utilities, you can have better party support <like null field, and other glamor skills>. Have a party member drop a blast finisher inside of it, then everyone around will have choas armor, which would be great for support. Either the enemy will 1. Stop attacking or 2. Continue attacking giving you/your team mate boons, and giving your enemy conditions.
Well I cant realy say the Shatter Cat builds not focus on shatter, but the hybrid build uses phantasms as a dmg source aswell and is wery flexible. Th Heavy spec uses a more survival focus and the condition spec offers superb survival and more controll focusing. It uses staff clones for dmg source mainly in many cases.

Flimp’s tank build relies on rabid gear; not zerkers. Leo’s gear wouldn’t do nearly as well with that build.
I’m not an expert on power/crit support builds (is anyone?), but I might do a little experimenting to see if a CC build might work with GS and sword+focus or pistol. If you want to move away from shattering, tho, Taugrim’s legion build is still viable with some minor adjustments., esp 1v1. It focuses on keeping phantasms up instead of shattering them, but I’d still use shatters some times. Osi has a great hybrid shatter/phant hyrbid combo in his guide. Check that out first.
Edit: Looks like Osi is a ninja cat now too. :p
I’ve been trying out this hybrid power phantasm/glamour build:

It isn’t that great for solo/roaming unless you’re absolutely gosu with well timed feedbacks, but coupled with an ele or necro iWarlock hits very hard with full zerker. Has nice utility too with 4 different ethereal fields you can put down, and sword 3/5 + staff 2 lets you take advantage of it (offhand sword is just personal preference.)
I use a variation of seven mirror’s build, 0/20/20/0/30.
stats are:
3200 pw
39% crit / 62% crit dmg
2600 armor
18.8k hp
staff
sword/pistol
utilities:
decoy/blink/mirror images/mass invis
(sometimes inspiration instead of MI)
armor is all knights
jewelry is a mix of fractals pw/tough/crit % exotics and ascended with zerker ascended back piece.
still uses 4pt shatter and plays like shatter build but a bit less dmg and a bit more tanky. I find its a nice medium and a bit thiefy with the stealth. Not too hard with some playtime to fight 1vX, especially center island on the Wx3 BLs.
20/0/0/20/30 is a very strong power-based hybrid (offense/defense).
The points in Insp get you Warden’s Feedback, which is the bomb, as well as another utility (I often use Vigor-on-Shatter, otherwise known as “perma Vigor” when used in tandem with IP, or rapid Shatters in general). The additional CC from Wall/Void is great.
Edit: It’s basically a “more utility” version of the standard 20/20/0/0/30 shatter build.
Per your OP, you’re looking for less Shatters …
There’s the standard 30/30/0/0/10 Mantra build, but that’s more DPS, less Shatters, less utility.
There’s the old bunker / phantasm army series of builds that are still usable I’d guess.
Any support build can be played with Berserker gear, although it would be awkward in some cases (running up to Medic’s Feedback rez someone while having 0 Toughness lolol).

I had an offensive-support build that focused on phantasms and giving all the things regeneration, but as I started doing dungeons other than HotW (that’s what I farmed for my armor skin), I realized the drawbacks to it – namely phantasms can and will die too quickly for it to be of any real use in the dungeons I have to run, so I switched to a shatter build.
The phantasm build was pretty straightforward, traits that buff phantasms pretty much. Knight/cleric gear. It was really fun, but not very viable. :P
I recently switched to the 20/0/0/20/30 build EasymodeX mentioned above. Mostly run it in WvW as a Glamour/Confusion build. It had been very effective and quite a bit of fun when dealing with zergs.
Wow great tips! Thank you very much! A question regarding the 20/0/0/20/30 build though, seeing as it does not have deceptive evasion, how do i play it successfully? I imagine it will use Imbued Diversion as opposed to Illusionary persona? Perhaps I should use a scepter instead of a 1h sword?
EDIT: Ok after taking your advices into consideration, I have made this build.. It’s supposed to be an alternative berserker phantasm that supports via glamor and phantasm regen build that can also support via the staff (the iWarlock still provides a good amount of damage despite me not being built around conditions i assume?). However, this build relies too much on melee for damage. I dunno I’m confused, I’d really like to hear your opinion on this build and tweaks that I should make. I think this would’ve been better if I had power/toughness/condition equips no? (or is there even one?)
This is an attempt on my part to make the 1h/focus my primary set because I haven’t seen any mesmer that is built around being melee. Staff is my secondary weapon and acts as a support. I’m rolling opal orbs right now in my armor and sigils of energy and so I would like some ideas on what to replace them with..
EDIT to the build:
I’m replacing decoy with veil on the first pic because I dont want my phantasms to be overwritten
The second build makes use of the phantasmal defender to give support instead.. but suffers from no condition removal aside from warden+curtain combo unless I replace decoy with phantasmal disenchanter. Signet of illusions is there (aside from the HP it provides my illusions) so that I have the option to use more of my shatters for defensive purposes.

ATM i’m running a 20/20/0/25/5 Setup with Scepter o. Sword/Focus and Greatsword:
Domination : III-X
Duelling: II-X
Inspiration: II-VIII
as Utilities I use Feedback + Nullfield + <optional>
as Elite Timewarp or Mass Invisibility depending on Situation
When Healing is needed i switch Wardens Feedback for Restorative mantras and choose mantra of pain as optional slot… otherwise i usually use decoy, portal or blink as my optional slot (depending on situation).
Equipment is a Mix of Soldier and Knight-Pieces with A Might-Stacking Runeset (2xHoelbrack 2x Fire 2x Strength) and Sigil of Superior Battle on Focus/GS and +5% crit on Sword/Scepter
Focuses on heavy Phantasm-Damage on low CD and Party Support via Block/Portal/Mantra-Heal depending on Situation
Thank you for your suggestion Darksider. It is a very interesting build.. However, I am stuck with purely berserker equips atm (i can’t afford to buy another set). I’m at a loss as to what rune I should get for mesmer.. Divinity runes sound the most alluring but costs too much (i am using Ruby orbs at the moment because they provided me with the highest burst among the choices of runes when I ran shatter build, but as for my hybrid build, im not sure what I should use)
Flimp’s tank build relies on rabid gear; not zerkers. Leo’s gear wouldn’t do nearly as well with that build.
Yeah, I read it wrong. I interpreted it as ‘I want something other than the usual full Zerker build.’ My bad.
