I Miss...
Oh I miss that too!! I actually loved how every class had their own way of casting spells and different dances and all that jazz. The twirl definitely made the connection with how mesmers were supposed to be “theatrical” or “dramatic” mages.
I actually miss some of the hexes we used to have. Being able to completely shut people down was so much fun when done correctly (and many of the players who have never played gw1 definitely wouldn’t complain about the mesmer’s here in gw2 if they had faced the mesmer’s that stopped you from activating any skill at all)

This. I really miss my Shutdown Mesmer from GW1. I really loved playing the anti-caster caster!

Does anyone here still play GW1? I pretty much dropped it cold when GW2 was released.

All of this is on my list lol. I too miss how every class had their own unique spell casting animations, but I think that it may have changed due to no longer being rooted on casting spells. Though I do wish my Mesmer returned to that “theatrical” feel as he feels a little too aggressive and it doesn’t seem right. But yeah shutting down was my favorite aspect of GW 1 Mesmer and kitten other players off hehe.
@skcamow.3527 As much as I would love to play GW1, I invested over 2000 hours in it and have done pretty much everything I wanted in it. Now I just look back at it with very fond memories while continuing my legacy with GW2.

I went back a week ago for my birthday presents. Got lazy halfway through.
I miss basically everything. Somehow they managed to turn the game’s most complex debuff/shutdown class into a kitten proof direct damage class that’s completely broken for all forms of pvp and ridiculously boring to play in pve.

I have to agree. I often get bored quickly with my Mesmer in PVE because it’s essentially now a pet class that relies heavily on shattering. I think the Mesmer lost much of its feel when they removed the hex system for this game as Mesmer’s relied heavily on crippling their enemies with many amazing hexes with very different effects. I do still have hope that the Mesmer will evolve and transcend the simplistic nature it has currently.
Regarding direct-damage, I also have to agree which may be why I find more enjoyment in the elementalist because direct-damage is more suited for the elementalist role. Sadly, even though the Mesmer was my main and my favorite profession in GW 1, I find myself playing the GW2 mesmer less and less now and will more likely pick another class for my main.

Oh man. The Guild Wars 1 mesmer. I miss so much about them:
Like Psychic Instability:

Signet of Illusions:
http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Signet_of_illusions
Fevered Dreams:
http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Fevered_Dreams
How every player in PvP would do an awkward half-step around me when they saw me coming (some of them would just stop doing anything entirely).
How adding one to your party was a gamble because you didn’t know whether they were God-tier or n00b. There were no real in-betweens.
Oh, and the thing I miss most is my armor:
White Elite Elegant (http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Fevered_Dreams) and Elite Canthan (http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Gallery_of_male_mesmer_Elite_Canthan_armor).
Gaul. I’ve got to start Guild Wars 1 up again for nostalgia’s sake.

Old Arcane Theivery… actually useful.
I miss the subtlety of the GW1 mesmer.
As a mesmer in the party, people who don’t know the mesmer would often say, “hey why didn’t you do anything?”, or even get kicked from parties cause you aren’t contributing dps (atleast early in the games existence).
This kinda gave you the feeling, “i pity those ignorant fools”
I also miss the surrealistic avant garde feeling they had. The mesmer seemed to be somewhat the oddball out, out of sequence with the rest of the world. Now they blend in too much.
Luna Solares – Mesmer
I don’t miss that at all. It was way too… tooth fairy-ish
I’m actually hoping that if we do get new weapons in the future, one of them will be direct damage like a warrior with a greatsword.

Nope, still happens to me.

I had a female Mesmer in GW 1, but I have to agree that the male mesmer Elite Canthan was one of my favorite designs for the male. It really had that exotic feel to it. Now that I think of it, this game is lacking suitable masks for mesmers as well.

God I miss Signet of Illusions. I used to run a spell stealing build with SoI in randoms sometimes just to screw with people. It was really fun looking at the other team’s makeup and being like “should I be their ele, their mesmer, or their monk this round. hmm….” or being paired up against like 4 sins and just having to deal with endlessly stealing all of their healing skills or lynchpin hexes used for starting their dagger chains.
Nothing in GW2 comes even REMOTELY close to this kind of playful skill usage or depth. It’s nothing but nukes and dodges, while all of the interesting skills got replaced with unbalanced gimmicks like stealth and clones. It’s really kind of depressing.

Try playing a necro in GW2 :P

I tried, i got bored and went back to my mesmer
Luna Solares – Mesmer
I do like the GW2 Mesmer… but the GW1 Mesmer remains my favourite class. It’s the counter class. The ultimate counter class; all about subversion and control.
