I like it as it is.
Well, all developers (not just GW) should know that forums post all complain about anything. Ppl don’t bother posting “it’s okay”, but rahter “I want it changed”.
I’m also somewhat fine with mesmer. I’m not a pvp players, but I’ve heard the lack in PvE power is the boost in PvP. Personally it’d prefer to this be evened out a bit. If I see others killing the same mob in 50% or even 33% of my time.
I also have the feel that Grandmaster traits are too weak (for their cost) and Elite skills are not worthy either. Same with my utility spells. I barely use them since I spawn clones on dodge or with weapon speels. The double clone is rather an emergency spell for me. To be short, we either need more utility spells or boost some of them.
But generally I don’t see a big problem in this. Mesmers are PvP/ WvW classes and weak in PvE.
This thread is probably the only chance I’ll get to say this, but I love the scepter. Yes, that’s in its current state. Everything about it, each skill I use on a regular basis and have done since launch. Well done Anet, while I know a lot of people feel the scepter is underpowered or doesn’t have much synergy with anything else, I honestly can’t see any changes I would make to it, it’s perfect.

“But generally I don’t see a big problem in this. Mesmers are PvP/ WvW classes and weak in PvE.”
So people who’d like to play a Mesmer in PvE and don’t care much for PvP are no relevant part of the player base to be considered?
I’m enjoying the class but do bear in mind people offering constructive criticism don’t necessarily hate or dislike it, they can just see ways in which it could obviously be better. Useless and broken abilities and the like don’t stop a class being playable and fun by any means but a lot of people see them and say “I like what they’re trying to do here but it doesn’t work” and try to help.
I played mesmer in beta, ANet announced it was the least polished class in July. It shows. But then they basically fixed every other class and left mesmer till last despite it needing most work (this was a really questionable decision even at the time it was obviously happening and confused everyone, mesmer was literally left alone for a month after they admitted it needed the most work, they worked like mad in the last couple of weeks but that leaves little time to test), and that shows beyond the patch notes we open beta players could see too. It does just need polish now but despite how much fun it is to play they (both the class and the game itself) are great and fun but feel like they came out the oven a little early and still have plenty of room for improvement and as players we’re here trying to help make sure that happens correctly.

“Useless and broken abilities and the like don’t stop a class being playable and fun by any means but a lot of people see them and say “I like what they’re trying to do here but it doesn’t work” and try to help.”
Exactly! I wouldn’t be criticizing if I didn’t like playing the profession anyway.

This.
Most people on these forums love the class, and -most- arent even trying to make it super-OP.
We love being mesmers, we just wish for a bit more polishing ( im looking at you shatter lag).
I mean, look at the greatsword skill delay, it got fixed. And it helped to make the weapon a lot more usable!
If they fixes it cause they already knew or cause people spoke out, well never know.
But better safe thab sorry, no?^^
Again, love mesmer, love feedback, love time wrap.
I also love my Mesmer. It took me 30 levels to get to a point I could actually play it worth a kitten, though. I’m for continuing quality of life changes like the GS change (which was phenomenal), but I’m immensely frustrated by the people lobbying for complete mechanics overhauls—some of them blatantly trolling. And I make a distinction between that and just asking for bug fixing, timing improvements, and the like. It really is a breath of fresh air to be able to jump on a thread like this and show some appreciation, and I hope that by it the powers that be see that most of us are very happy with the profession as it is. I am.
Agreed.
I love the mesmer, it was a bit slow for the first 30 levels but I wouldn’t trade it for anything at this point.
I’ve been a big fan of the class since we first started getting details on it way back when. I generally have found that this class, more than ANY others, illicits people who feel it should be changed in large ways. The class mechanic seems to be the most polarized of all the professions.
While I do agree there are some issues that really need fixing (bugs, our ability to effectively tag mobs in large DE’s for loot) the core of the profession is great in my opinion and I hope it’s not changed. I enjoy the relationship between the Clones/Phantasms and Shatter, I love the aesthetics of our spells, and I love the utility we can bring to any group.
Just wanted to heap my love for the class on top of the pile.
As I said in another thread, the Mesmer is a diamond but it still requires a bit more polishing. The class has some undeniable issues, and Anet needs to get those fixed up. Once they do Mesmer will be amazing instead of just “neat” like it is now. For now, at certain points it feels like I’m struggling with the class mechanics, and that’s definitely an issue.
Ideally those problems will get ironed out in the next couple of months and I’ll be singing the classes praises.
What if Mesmers are already amazing?
I’m totally fine with how mesmer is right now. Actually I tried all classes and mesmer is by far my favorite. I browsed through this forum quickly and to be quite frank, I was surprised with the amount of QQ going on. I mean so far I’ve been having no problems AT ALL achieving anything with my mesmer. It took me time to figure out how to play the class, but eventually it all made sense to me.
I’ve done both PvE, sPvP and WvW and I gotta say the mesmer really shines in each situation. To me the class is just amazing, period. No problems whatsoever.
What if Mesmers are already amazing?
The class still needs some work. Every class in the game has issues, some more so than others. Trying to suggest that it’s perfect is just silly.
For example, when you summon a dodge clone, sometimes instead of attacking the target you’re already in combat with, instead it gets linked to a different target or a nearby inanimate object. Having a clone pull a second or third enemy while you’re already fighting two is rather annoying. As is having your clone run off to explode on a box when you order them to shatter your target.
There are other issues, like clones getting stuck in the terrain when you order them to shatter, or dying in an enemies AoE when they walk over to explode.
Is the Mesmer innovate, interesting and potentially amazing? Absolutely. It just needs a bit more polish to get there.
Oh I agree, the class is not “perfect”. But, it is amazing. I think the class is pretty far past “neat”. Neat was when I figured out Mirror + Adventurer runes + Deceptive Evasion was hilarious.
I wouldn’t call most of the current issues “issues”, since that implies some meaningful degree of severity. There are a lot of minor issues like pathing as you say, but these are generally infrequent and can, for the most part, be worked around by the player.
The only “significant” issues around are iLeap’s range, iMage in general, Prestige sequencing and mechanics, and some usability/“QOL” tweaks all around.
I’m absolutely loving playing my Mesmer. As people have said, it isn’t perfect. It is, however, an amazing class, and I find it has great versatility.
There are a number of issues that need to be looked at, and I think the shatter mechanic could use a bit of work – it’s useful at times, it just needs polishing, it tends to be rather clunky. Overall, though, mesmer is great fun to play. Don’t see myself getting bored of it anytime soon!

love my Mesmer and want NOTHING changed . Don’t make this game another WoW nerf buff fiasco
Other than a few bugged traits and torch we’re in a really good place.
Maguuma
I also love the GW2 Mesmer and consider it one of the most unique and beautiful profession concepts to have been developed in a very long time. I find myself continuously drawn back to the profession over all others – the aesthetics and style are simply phenomenal and a lot of the skills are just so interesting and fun.
It’s only because I adore the profession concept so much that I want to offer constructive feedback on how I imagine the mechanics might better flow and align with that concept. I could be completely wrong, sure, but I’m quite certain the live team are capable of making their own judgements and decisions and will easily ignore any suggestions that don’t fit their own vision of the class.
Personally I would hope that in coming to any decisions on whether changes are appropriate, the forum threads both for and against are given less weight than actual data that can be extracted from all players. I would be fascinated to see the real numbers on things like relative playtime of each class in PvP, PvE and WvW (there is an early graph from the bottom of Jon Smith’s blog post which compares profession numbers, but it doesn’t really make clear what exactly it is measuring). I’d similarly be interested in actual data for the average proportion of damage a Mesmer puts out directly, through their pets (clone bleeds/conditions & phantasms), and through shatters. Maybe the number of times each ability and trait is equipped or used in various modes of the game would be useful too. I would think that more of that kind of information is absolutely essential before coming to any reasonable conclusion about whether Mesmers as a whole are perfectly fine or if there are any commonly identified issues that warrant further scrutiny.
Regardless, as has been said repeatedly, the team responsible for weaving the magic that is Mesmer deserve a huge amount of thanks and kudos.

mesmer is almost perfect, only torch need some major tweaks.
I have to agree, Mesmer is a great profession. Few little bugs to be worked out here and there, but overall I really like what has been done with the profession. I stepped into Spvp yesterday for the first time with 7 of my guildies and they were all whining I was OP. So i explained to them how to spot the Mesmer. Then the crying dissipated.
People think the class is OP or too strong until they play one. They are slippery. I don’t think they are the strongest class in pvp though. I think they are competitive for sure. I get rolled by any player on any profession who is better then me, plain and simple.
Players need to learn their professions, understand the tools at their respective disposal as well other professions tools. I don’t think they would QQ as much after that.
