80 Sylvari Revenant
I have a Mesmer that I have almost maxed out. She has turned out to be excellent for dungeoneering and general PvE stuff. The massive condition damage and agile gameplay keep my intrigued and involved. My only dilemma is that she’s nearly worthless in WvW, so I’m considering making a second Mesmer.
I’m planning on having him use a scepter/sword or sword/torch with staff as second weapon. I will develop this character solely for WvW rights. I want to focus more on the small roaming battles and less on the zerg gameplay.
To those of you who have met Mesmer success in WvW, what are your thoughts on the profession. Is it worth my time to take up a second character slot with the same profession?
While I have created a second mesmer too, I would ask you to consider the following option:
Get another set of gear for your existing mesmer, buy some new weapons from the AH or craft them and retrait for whatever specc you want in WvW.
See if you like it, then decide. You can still level another mesmer, but at least you won’t be unhappy about the result if you know what to expect.
Honestly, it doesn’t matter if you level a character in WvW of if you just spend as much time with a lvl 80 there… ^^

I don’t fully understand? Are you proposing to level a character all the way to 80 simply so you don’t have to change traits between pve and wvw? I have a SINGLE mesmer , with around 4 full different armor sets, and I constantly change builds, sometimes 5 or 6 times a day depending on the content im about to play.
The cost is so cheap for changing traits that I really couldn’t fathom levelling the same class a second time, either. Plus this is my Carighan, she looks the way she does, she’s my Mesmer! :O
builds that work in wvw tend to work well enough in pve. Haven’t seen your guild in wvw before though…
Buying another set of gear is the obvious answer that I never considered. Reassigning your traits is dirt cheap. I think I’ll give this a shot.
Thanks for the input! I look forward to developing my WvW game soon.
Lol. My Mesmer has 6 different sets of armour and over 35 different weapons. Re-traiting is cheap. Having multiple sets of armour with different runes is generally better than destroying expensive runes.
The only limiting factor is bank space/bag space.
I got a second mesmer to troll (alongside another fellow mesmer) my guild leader that says he doesn’t see us around him while we roam in WvW (I’m a small Sylvari, my friend is an Asura, the guild leader is a big Norn).
So, we made two huge norn mesmers and we log them from time to time only “to be seen” :°)
Retraiting and getting more gear is the easiest way to accomplish what you want
I made a second mes for few reasons. Mainly so I don’t have to constantly retrait and carry another armor/weapon/trinket/consumables set on me at all times when I hop into WvW. Also, wanted to give my mes some kind of RP progression. She went to high school, worked on her degree at Vigil, graduated with flying colors, and now many years later is fighting in WvW for her server

LCV, I totally ran into a green sylvari TLB mesmer in wuvwuv just now near SM. Was that you? I waved like, 7 or 8 times I was the white/pink sylvari mesmer.
I love when that happens lol.
Almost any mesmer build can work for roaming.
Except if you want to be able to catch runners then you’ll need a power/greatsword build, but other than that you can fight anyone otherwise.
I have 7x 80s. I got human mes to 80 then wiped her because I wanted to play Asura. If you have a free char slot and don’t want to take the 30s to respec between Pve/WvW then play up a new mesmer. You get a LOT more achievement which is nice for the chests. If you gather you get an extra char to gather with. There’s no reason not to play up a second mesmer barring you feel short on char slots.
That said it really is as simple as a new set of gear and an extra 30s on transition to have a PvE mesmer and WvW mesmer on the same character.
