Q:

I am a brand new Guild Wars 2 player, I’ve seen several different gameplays of this game, and while the Warrior seemed to have attracted me, I saw that the Mesmer also was able to get up close and personal. Being a complete new player, would it be a good idea for me to start a Mesmer as my first character? I’ve read online that up to level 20-25, the Mesmer has a really hard time in the game and usually dies with ease. Is this true, or not? If so, what can I do about this situation? I read on that at later levels the Mesmer is lots of fun and I just feel as though a type of class that deceives the enemy, and illusionist, would fit my gaming personality best, but I don’t want to slave away at a game that I have such a good feeling about.

Thanks!

Mesmers have a leveling until they can start getting some traits.
If you pick a mesmer buy toughness/vitality gear. (Clerics gear would be a good start).
Also if you pick a mesmer find some friends to level with to make it a better experience.
I have 400hours with my mesmer, 800 total. but I only have about 50hours if that with a warrior so I wont say much on them. They are a pure DPS glass cannon but you can make them tankish.

Mesmer was my first char and although a little difficult at first once I got the hang of the whole shattering thing and understood the differences between clones and phantasms it got way easier. Starting out I found staff, great sword, and scepter to be the best weapons to keep some range between your squishy self and mobs.
