I wonder if they'll remove the AoE...
If anything, they’ll just nerf the damage.

I dont think they will touch Mind Wrack any further. It is what the class is built around, not only that, its not like you can get a perfect shatter every time. Ive had plenty of clones dies running to the target or die just as im hitting shatter. Sometimes blinds and evades make you struggle to pull out the 3 clones in the first place, and during that time you are doing ZERO damage.
We dont have reliable AoE damage Already…. if they make mind wrack single target, ima be PISssSED.
if Anything, and i still dont want to see this happen, theyll limit the number of targets it can hit (for example, engineer pistol#4) … Which, i wouldnt mind if they implemented this for sPvP, but this would destroy this class for PvE…..
Please Anet, if you nerf our AoE ability, consider that we struggle with DE’s already… I mean, its managable…. but compared to EVERY other class, we need our AoE abilities in tact.
If your going to make our mind wrack single target, then our clones should transfer aggro (and stay Up) when their target dies, if multiple targets… As in, they wont automatically dissipate until you exit combat… This would also add more weight to non-shattering builds…. some would say this would be Way to OP, and those people that say this, are a little stoopid, and never seem to just auto attack the clones down…
There are many other classes with more reliable and powerful AOE than mind wrack.
Mesmer takes way too much risk to aoe well.
If anything the aoe’s that come to mind as game changing are Ele’s rain of fire and some necro’s well’s.
Rain of fire and necro’s make defending a keep nearly impossible to stand on the walls.
I play a support/wells Necro as well… the damage itself from wells isn’t really that staggering and the trait lines are pretty spread out to trait into them properly. The fear Mark, however, can be bubble bursting for defenders. All this said, Necro is so AoE-tastic compared to anything else I’ve played, but still somewhat under powered in general. It’s the class most people will not want to take to a dungeon, sadly…
If Mesmer, who lacks decent AoE in general gets nerfed, I will be very angry.

If they mess with that, they basically break the entire profession (not being dramatic here) and would have to seriously redesign and compensate in other areas and Anet has pretty much proven that they are not capable and willing to balance their game on that level.
If they remove the AoE on MW, it will be totally ruined, only one target when you can see the blast around you if you have shatter effect on you as well, They will not remove it, but if they do, I will make another profession
Someone say game crash must be related to OOM
when you read the log it’s not related to that whatsoever…
In regards to AoE, I can’t imagine they were even thinking of touching the mesmer. We likely have the worst AoE potential already. I’m guessing they were mostly referring to the elementalist.

Did all three AC paths the other day with four necros, they all changed their traits around so they could have a gazillion minions and we totally wiped everything in there fighting head on faster than I’ve done with anyone else lol it was pretty danged entertaining.
I doubt they’ll remove the AoE. Thieves and Mesmers can both be spikey, Thieves have more straight forward single target spike, our’s is AoE with less damage. If they remove the AoE they would need to increase the damage output, or make it harder to avoid.

You guys surely know that most melee stuff is frontal cone aoe with at least 3 targets affected.
But I think they were talking about gtae like chaos storm and mind stab.
they will decrease chaos storm damage by 30% to lower its amazing 47 damage/sec on a glass cannon build!
I think Winds was specifically naming GTAoE abilities that a Mesmer have to illustrate the concept of what those abilities do, as in create a circle of damage on the ground, merely to represent what other professions have in regards to those. The damage on Chaos Storm and Mind Stab is fairly laughable, they are used for their secondary effects, I would assume Winds is aware of that of course.
No it would be folly to remove AoE from the few AoE abilities a Mesmer currently has without compensation, though what they have planned is anyone’s guess because they bounce around ideas so much and end up following some that seem less well thought out. That said, it’s a learning process and they do appear to be getting better, and faster than most MMO companies I’ve seen, albeit perhaps not as fast as we would prefer.

They might still be learning, but in the mean time they could kill our class in a single swoop if they removed the AoE from MW. Judging from their past performance, it could happen.
