they dont shatter, they just stand still. atleast thats how it works against other players.
however if you shatter right away when they stealth, it’ll still damgae them, since shatter is aoe.
i can’t count the number of times a thief stealths, i shatter immediately, and after 10 seconds their corpse unstealths
I am not experiencing that… what I am experiencing when an enemy stealths is I go from three active illusions to 0. Almost as if stealthing, for me, is registering as the enemy dying, and so my illusions go away. If what you say is true, perhaps the act of stealthing is damaging and one-shotting my illusions.

That never happens to me. When the enemy stealths all my Illusions just become stationary, them immediately resume attacking/chasing when they become visible.
IIRC, if you shatter on an invisible target, our illusions will even chase it down before banging. The only time I think I recall seeing a “false” shatter was on one of the critters with a “flies” subtitle (bat, harpy, etc). It flew up so high that I lost target and the clones shattered, but also put me in out of combat mode. It was in flight mode so long that I thought it despawned. It eventually came back and started attacking again (with low hp, so I knew it was the same critter). Ultra rare behavior that I didn’t even much puzzle over until you brought up the topic here.
What I’d do in your case is document the zone, mob, etc. and post a bug on it. That way Anet might fix it. The behavior you’re describing is not the way it has been working in the past.
If this is happening to you in WvW it’s because the person hit alt+f4 to close the client to avoid repair bills. In this case your illusions do shatter… as the target they are “bound” to no longer exists in the game.
