Q:
Illusionary Leap bug?
I noticed this problem earlier this morning. The first answer I got when I asked was that I probably wasn’t in range so I accepted that it was my own fault, but now I’ll have to look into it again.
I also had it happen with Phase Retreat.
I just logged back in, started 10 different fights with illusionary leap as my opening attack, and sometimes using it again before the fight ended, and it worked every time. So now I don’t know.
I’ve found it can be an issue if I’m on slightly uneven ground (even just a tree root.) Not sure I remember having an issue on flat ground, though, that said, the uneven ground issue/bug happens to me quite frequently. Annoying, but little more than a quality of life issue for me personally.
I noticed this last night in WvW. I summoned it , was very close range and nada. He popped up but no slow. Target was a lowbie like myself. No dodges, etc… I was on a slight decline if that helps.
I dont like how the skill currently functions, they should just change it to a leap attack, and pressing 3 again will port you back to the original leaping location, and leave a clone at where you leaped.
Never have a problem with the illusion not spawning in PvE. Any time it doesn’t it is because I misjudged and was not in range. I have had an issue with any sort of terrain difference between myself and the mob causing the clone to spawn in the wrong spot.
Now PvP is a totally different story. I don’t know if it is lag or what is the problem but sword has been pretty much worthless for me. Illusionary leap never works as intended.
Yes, I’ve had this happen quite a bit.
It is normal for all Illusions if you out of range they don’t spawn and Leap only has 600 range. But it is also buggy and sometimes it does not spawn at all. Sometimes you don’t spaw right wasting your CDs and sometime it just does nothing even if you get a clone.
I think its a pathing issue with the clone, generally… the ability always generates a clone for me(unless im obviously not in range), but only about 50% of the time does this clone reach the target within 4 seconds…. So, half the time i swap to a random location.. which actually doesnt bother me, but when this happens, the cripple nor immobalize fails to trigger….
i wouldnt mind the ackward ‘swap’ if the cripple/immobalize still took place, but they dont seem to trigger unless the swap happens Perfectly…
i think it would be nice if the #3sowrd clone did a Zero damage leap to the target, much like the sword#5 phant does…. this would ensure he gets to the target quickly, and the swap mechanic can funtion properly… but since hes a Clone and not a phantasm, the leap doesnt do damage, nor count as a combo finisher….
just my 2c…
I’ve had 0 issues with the clone not spawning at all.
Only issue is how long it takes for the clone to path and leap to the target. A little over half the time it is very smooth, but the rest it’s delayed or rarely it never makes it to the target.
Sidenote: It does count as a leap finisher.
Sidenote2: Any proposed change which removes the immobilize is a bad proposal.
your right on the combo finisher, just went and read that, but i never implied removing the immobalize, i meant make the clone ‘leap’ to the target, so that the cripple/immobilize actually Work, often when i swap and the clone never reached the target, the immobilize never happens….
This is frustrating on flat ground… the clone ‘should’ be able to just run the 600 and close the gap, but they seem to spawn fro ma random location and sometimes need to run much to far to even successfully trigger the swap…
Id say 33% of the time it works perfect, 33% i swap and im nowhere near my target, and the other 33% the ‘swap’ mechanic goes back to the regular cooldown because i waited to long for the clone it actually reach my target… none of this would bother me if i could still ensure the cripple/immobilize, but that is not the case, as far as i can tell
i never implied removing the immobalize,
I wasn’t saying you were: just saying that in general, a large quantity of posters do make that recommendation as part of making the leap function more reliable, even though the immob is 100x more important.
I was noticing this in WvW yesterday as well. The clone just never made it to the target and I’m sure I was in range.
Been using mesmer the whole time. All I could say is that Illusionary is very unreliable at the moment. It has to be used on an even ground between you and the target for it to work. The illusion doesn’t really leap on your target but just runs fast toward it and if the target moves a little bit, using the skill again won’t trigger the cripple on your target since the illusion stops following the target after the initial skill is used. So right now this skill is bugged/useless since you have to use it on a target that doesn’t move or is on even ground for it to even work 90% of the time.. this skill needs some work ANET

Having used IL many, many times on the way to 80….
You just can’t use this thing in a clutch situation because unless you and the target are standing on polygons with less than a pixel difference in plane, your chances are iffy at best of actually having the thing fire. I’ve resigned myself to this and only use it PB to roll away from a now-rooted target, but it’s disappointing…sure would be nice if the skill functioned as the tooltip describes.
Oh well, nerf mesmers.
