Hi guys. I recently decided i want to make a Mesmer. I already known theyre late bloomers when it comes to leveling, since this will be the third one ive tried. Any leveling tips would be appreciated, but im probably just gonna stack power with GS and Sw/F.
Im also having a hard time choosing race. Asura are so cute and little and fit the whole Mesmer theme i think. But i dont know how light armor looks on them. Then theres charr. Whats scarier than a charr Mesmer using warband support? Plus Mesmer and charr are like exact opposites. I could see that being a really fun character. But charr and pretty much any armor……yeah….then theres sylvari. I think they have the coolest cultural, and also are probably the coolest looking mesmers. I treacly like all the different color combos you can make with them.
Once i hit 80, i wanna do a shatter build, a condi build, and a phantasm build. I pretty much only solo WvW, so none of this “berserker or die” crap in PVE. If i ever feel the need to run a dungeon ive got my guard. Any advice on what gear i should get first and what build would be greatly appreciated. Any Mesmer tricks and tips would also be helpful anyway, thanks for reading this far, and have fun mesmering.

I have no regrets about choosing sylvari for my mesmer. I think they look awsome!
If your going PvP (WvW), doing a large norn can just take up space making click targeting difficult and just more stuff in general for opponenets to look through. Counter argument is, it’s difficult to see what a small sized asura is doing (but if your teammates are small sized asura hiding between your large norn clones…)
Stacking power is rarely a bad thing while leveling. Nor is GS and queensdale champ train.
I’d get your power gear first, as you can use it for both shatter and phantasms. From there you could start getting some condi gear and play a hybrid build while finishing your condi set(I made a pretty extended post on that in This thread if your interested in what a hybrid type build would look like. Do note however, that was all theory crafting, I haven’t tested how that plays in game).
I have 6 asuras and 2 sylvari characters, so I like recommendations posted above.
My mesmer is asura and I can provide my subjective pros and cons.
Pros:
- they have really lovely animations
- their animations are harder to spot by an opponent
- their racial skills are using color palette that is similar to the mesmer skills (it is a sign)
- their movement feel faster than movement of other races (even tho it is the same speed)
Cons:
- not a race for lovers of skimpy armor (and I am thankful for that)
- armor and weapons are scaled down, so if you want to carry around biggest legendary, choose something else
There are about 0 charr mesmers out there – make one, they are stylish as kitten Also they use the Gs with one hand, like a DOOM AT YOU-scepter

mesmer make the best commanders aswell alot of people always say bla bla bla guardian bla bla bla warrior, but theyre wrong them two can get focused where the mesmer is immortal

Also quick Q. Is there such thing as a healing shatter build. With 1200 healing power. (Yeah you give up a lot of dmg for that, but whatevs) and Restorative illusions, you get healed for 5.5k whenever you shatter. Combined with 30 in illusions and you basically have 5.5 heals.
What if i used something like this? Yeah the damage will be a lot lower than your average shatter build. But you can heal like crazy. Plus 1600 toughness and 18k health.
honestly, if you’re going to be doing a lot of roaming/solo/smallgroup pvp in wvw, asura is the way to go. the racials for asura go well with mesmer for a couple builds. t-babble is great for builds that trait into dazes/interrupts and radiation field was always ‘ok’ for condi builds.
healing shatter i’ve seen in raids before, but it’s not that common. support mesmer is pretty underutilized as it’s positioning in something where it would be useful doesn’t put it in a viable spot – in regards to wvw, anyway.
Im also curious, i REALLY wanna get bolt for my charr. How much gold/time can i expect to invest for it? Or should i wait for precursor crafting or the new legendaries?
