This used to be a good trait before the big patch. However, as it is limited to applying its effect to once every 10 seconds, this has no teeth. How does such an ineffective trait get up to the grandmaster level? Looking at the other traits here, there’s really only one to choose from unless one is wielding a scepter.

Please, remove the application limit or just come up with something new. I thought you guys spent a lot of time learning from things over the last 3 years. While this definitely seems the case with the consolidation of things, I feel like you didn’t have too much of a choice other than consolidate traits, as the new system limits our choices from the get go. Putting a trait like this in the line up doesn’t prove that at all. Combine this with the buggy or ineffective ways other things are turning out, this just seems like things are being rushed out the door.

My pessimism tells me this won’t be addressed, or if it is, it won’t be addressed for a very long time considering how much other stuff is happening with the game right now and how some things have lapsed into acceptance, like in my signature. But it’s my duty as a caring gamer to point out this useless trait.

Ok, this is the most vague complaining post I’ve seen in a while. I was able to get absolutely nothing concrete out of it other than your obvious dissatisfaction with the trait. However, my gut is telling me that your dissatisfaction stems not from actual usage, but from misunderstanding of its functionality.

The trait has 2 parts. First, it applies a blind to an enemy when you block or otherwise avoid one of their attacks. This effect had a 10 second icd that is local to the target, allowing you to spread blinds to multiple people rapidly.

The second part is applying a stack of confusion when you apply a blind. This effect had no icd.

Hopefully this clarifies the trait a bit for you.

Am i being really stupid here, because I thought Ineptitude was an amazing trait for condi mesmers. Blind every 10 seconds, and every blind applied is a stack of condi. (I’m fairly sure the confusion is on every blind, not limited by the ICD?)

Combine this with blind on shatters, and it adds a decent amount of damage to condi builds.

According to the description, I can only apply one stack of confusion with blind to a person once every 10 seconds in addition to blocking or evading an attack inflicts blind.

Cause confusion when you blind a foe. Blocking or evading an attack inflicts blind on your opponent.
The same foe cannot be blinded more than once within the interval.

Ineptitude is a very good trait. It’s a bit random (especially in a team fight), but in those larger encounters you know you’re evading attacks from multiple people so the blind is dished out fairly regularly on that 10s per target ICD.

OK, so I tested this out. I don’t understand the description at all now. I was able to reapply many blinds, and while doing so, apply confusion each time. It is, indeed, referring to being able to blind on block or evasion limited to 10 seconds, NOT the apply confusion with blind.

This is a crazy good trait for small fights. And smart evades can have you controlling 2 or 3 versus one if you stagger your evades, your actual blinds (shatters, prestige, even sc2) your interrupts, and your bursts.

Mesmers taking damage? No good. Mesmers avoiding damage? Very good.

you can blind with shatter with no cd from the trait (only the shatters)
also if you dodge/evade attack you blind with 10 sec cd

also each blind you proc cause confusion with no cd on it

thus any shatter will proc another stack of confusion
scepter torch can proc another with block and blind

its a very good defensive trait

I think you must be misunderstanding how this trait works, because otherwise, you’d realize how kitten amazing this trait is. Even for power-based builds, I’d considering taking this over MF 40% of the time.

This shines in crowded group play where you’re dodging multiple attacks, essentially blinding enemies and mitigating a lot of dmg over time. The icd being based on individual targets is amazing. Definitely one of my favorite gms after the revamp.
