Insane GS range... D:
Always felt like it has more than 1200 range in PvP/WvW but I thought that’s just the animation. I think you should post this in the bug forum.
P.S. How do I enable that range indicator?
As far as I know, every single skill in the game has something like +15% situational increased range, to make up for lag or people getting out of range while you’re casting the skill.
It seems to be more noticeable in the GS #1 because is not a projectile.
You can notice this easily also in WvW. Go to south Hills outer gate, and while in front of the gate, target the right cannon. It will be out of range in the red range indicator. Usually only eles can hit that cannon, because Staff Fire #1 has a small AoE. But try to use the GS #1 and while the animation doesn’t follow, you will hit the cannon.
every ranged auto atk has a slightly more range than it says, ranger longbow traited auto atk has like 1800 or so(it says 1500)
ofc same is for fire staff 1 on ele, guard staff 1, scepter air 1 ele, not sure if longbow on war, butcould be, and a lot more~
the devs said smth like , its so that it can better connect w kiting enemys (not sure what exactly they said) so its not abug
1200 → 1700 is quite a lot though (way more than 15%).
I knew about the ele staff fire 1 since it’s at least 1200 range (not including +15% here) + 180 explosion radius (with Blasting Staff) = 1380 range. Sometimes the projectile flies further which increases the range which doesn’t make any sense to me tbh.
Just tried it with my ranger and it works there too…
Maybe they should look at all the ranged AAs again, quite a few seem to be bugged. If they really wanted them to have ~15% more range, all of them should have that bonus. Some of them don’t have it at all while other attacks have way more than 15%.
Did you using piercing arrows with the ranger test? The piercing/laser might act in a similar fashion to the fireball giving extra range to it but that’s still an extra 320 after a 15% boost. Is it just that golem specifically since he might just have a weird hitbox.
To clarify, I do know of the inherent longer range on most skills. Most of the time that extended radius doesn’t exceed 100 to maybe 200 in past the intended range, which usually can be explained as “max-skill-range + enemy hit box radius”. What I observed in OP was an anomaly, where gs reached 500+ past intended range when I moved and attacked the golem from a different angle. That is a 40% increase!

the elementalist staff in fire goes around 1500 + 180 radius, 1680 or so range in total
and i am pretty sure mesmer gs1 is not more than 1500
Yup. Greatsword crazy OP. Needs nerfs across the board. Anet will get right on that.

GS op? Let’s nerf everything else first, and then afterwards hotfix the GS..
You are actually right about that range – when i saw your OP, i didn’t want to believe it (i know – through multiple tests – that the range of GS#1 was about 1300 units for some time, but didn’t test it recently).
So naturally i instantly went online and testet it for myself – and you’re spot on with your observations.
I went to queensdale with my little engi, which has – due to traits – exactly 1500 range on her grenade skills; targeted the second practise-dummy to the right, and walked backwards until i was at the limit of being out-of-range, making a screenshot to mark the position. I then relogged on my mes, moved to the same position, and attacked – see the results:
edit: didn’t censor the chat, re-uploaded the new pic.

If by hotfix you mean nerf, then you’re on board with Anet’s Mesmer manifesto

Nonono, I’m referring to the screenshot.

cause i didn’t bother “censoring” the chat? Thought my guildis wouldn’t mind, seeing as there is nothing intimate written. Guess i will update it though
:/ I meant the top right of your screenshot… where it tells you to meet your friends…?
Really, you guys are all mesmers and this blind…? Where’s the thief in this thread spamming smoke field?
The queensdale training dummies if shot from where the Armorsmith NPC is, the range is 1,385. If shot from where the the Armor repair NPC is, the range is 1,680… very odd.

How are you getting that range indicator, or is it an AHK?

Haha, i indeed didn’t notice that. Not surprising though, i’am a WvW Duelist, not a PvEer. In Fact, despite playing almost two years, i haven’t done much of my personal Story at all, because
- my current System sucks in terms of graphics (have to play at lowest settings, and the Resolution you’re seeing was an exception to get a better view during the test – it would be far lower, usually) – and that takes much away from the immersion. Don’t want to ruin my personal story through graphics
- i’am mostly in WvW, and rarely enter PvE for something different than JP’s or worldbosses/dungeons – whenever i’am in need for some gold.
- Living Story never interested me much. I totally ignored Flame&Frost, did a little when the nightmare tower got introduced, and just started a few of the quests because i was interested in the new area. Turns out that Dry Top reduces my Framerate to 4-8fps when nothing special happens.
As you can see, the top right corner of my screen isn’t all to much of importance to me :p

Look up gw2dps, it’s on my github.

oh you..
ranger and elementalist same bag range if not autoattack. ranger more distance 2100.
Depending from which side I attacked the Target Golem (Indestructible) in HotM, gs autoattack would at certain angles connect all the way from 1,700+ even though the skill itself is technically 1,200 max…
Has anyone seen this happen maybe somewhere else in game?
what r u using to see distance etc? ;0

Any reason why it doesn’t work on MSVS2013x64? I’m using it for school because it’s a lot nicer than 2010 whilst 2012 is a nightmare. If it’s just project settings, I can try updating that in my spare time, but I’m not sure since I don’t know if I want to setup my laptop when I go home (YES I PLAY GW2 ON A LAPDESKTOP) since I’m going to be working fulltime this entire week.
Also, have you considered including an XML or Txt file to save the keybindings to allow users to change them before runtime? It’s a nice QoL, and can even extend to writing a smaller side-applet to change the keys with a GUI for those less… code-savvy who won’t be able to look up keybinds on the interwebternets.
It’s probably a config tweak because that’s exactly the same version I’m running here. Either way, I think it’s best to keep any gw2dps discussions to either the github or email which is frifox@gmail.com.
