I used to play a confusion mesmer in WvW before the flat out 50% nerf and I really miss that playstyle. I still have my rabid gear lying around in my inventory looking pretty.

With the +300 condi damage on scepter buff and the new runes, do you think it would be viable to try a WvW confusion build again for zerging purposes?

Perhaps try (30(II,VIII,X)/0/0/30(II,VII,VIII)/10(V)) with GS + Scepter/Focus.

Why do people post stuff like this? The dramatic, exaggerated claim of “nerfed mess” just comes off as whining.

If you haven’t seen a viable WvW build in the last month then you haven’t been reading the very forum you’re posting on. There have been numerous builds posted specifically relating to confusion and perplexity runes. Besides that – the PU phantasm build is still very much viable in WvW. It’s just irritating how quick people are to blame something other than their own lack of ability.

I was running confusion for month before it got cut in half.

and it gets really close to the old condition op feeling
some minor tweaks in gameplay like timing scepter 2 and using your clones as mines rather than homing missiles.
important:
rabid gear, doom sigils, staff, scepter/torch, prismatic understanding, all condition on clone traits, retaliation with block.

not running ANY condition removal and it works well even against condition necros or engis.

edit: wirt perplexitiy runes of course! you will interrupt very often with f3 and chaos storm + more confusion on hits. It seems the confusion caused by clonedeath does not benefit from the runeset (bug) so with that fixed it will be even more powerful.

1696 condition damage (1946 with 25x corruption) (2821 with 24x corruption/might)
1524 toughness & 17,982 hp

maybe it’s not the most optimal, but still quite fun seeing a sea of confusion ticks once again

Hahaha go to the ele forums if you want to see people talk about a nerfed mess, its like a suicide hotline in there.

Really mesmer is one of the more viable WvW classes in my opinion due to synergy and utility. Whether portal, timewarp or AoE invis and reflect, they do well while either doing decent burst or condition damage. You don’t have to be a tanky warrior or guardian to be viable in wvw.

@OP Osicat’s condition build with sword/pistol (and scepter/torch) is probably the most viable perplexity build, maybe even with mantra of stunning/dazing (forget the name). A GS would be an awful idea for a condition-confusion build.

I run this and win almost all of my fights. It has Good condition Clearing and high stacks of multiple conditions for a long time. Conditions are at +100% while Confusion sits at a nice +130%

EDIT: Forgot to Mention that eating Rare Veggie Pizza is a must if you want o really hit like a Truck.

For Utilities I always take Blink and Decoy but I change up the third slot a alot. Signet of Domination, Mantra of Distraction, Veil, and Arcane Thievery are my favorites though.

I still find my power/shatter build more effective for bigger groups (20-25+, ZvZ)

Just so you don’t go bankrupt, use koi cakes over rare veggies pizzas like someone said to use. Koi cakes are like 87 copper and Rare veggie pizza is 8-9 silver, for the same effect but for 20 minutes instead of half an hour.

For small group fights I’ve been enjoying 0/30/30/0/10 stacking confusion with the duelist.

As part of a small team that usually has a necromancer this allows rapid appliaction of 16+ stacks from the Duelist through feedback and Confusing Images plus the Perplexity 4 proc, if you interrupt as you stun (to ensure no dodging the epidemic) this will go up to 21 stacks.

After that opener you can switch to staff and apply ranged condition pressure plus the chance of AoE interrupts on Chaos Storm. The might on interrupt, Sigils of Battle, and boon duration ensure you will have a baseline of 6-9 stacks, which after any interrupt will jump to 11+ at exactly the time when you want a massive condition damage spike.

The glamour fields can be changed out, we tend to have a shout Guardian to help condition clearing, if you don’t I’d probably take the Mantra cleanse instead of one of the fields. For less specific groups I’d go for what now seems to be the condition meta of 20/20/30/0/0 clone death/Prismatic Understanding outlined above, I run it from time to time and its a great build that Perplexity adds a little bit of spice to.
