I’m curious because I’d like to make my new mesmer character a confusion build, but I don’t want to make it a PvP/WvW exclusive character. I’ve looked around and all the confusion builds I see are for pretty much for only for WvW. Sure, I enjoy WvW, but I’d like to take this character along for dungeons and fractals too.

In a word, no. Sorry.

Actually, just to add on – confusion builds tend to bad in WvW too. That’s not saying they’re impossible to win with, but there are a number of builds (Blackwater, Osi’s power PU build, regular shatter, etc) that will likely work better.

Not at all. Bosses and mobs don’t use abilities often enough for confusion to hit them even once, often times. Sad, but bad.

Unfortunately our confusion glamour build got double nerfed last year and has been useless ever since.

Which is really too bad. The build was essentially the Mesmer version of the necro wellomancer build (ie two aoes on a 30-40 second cd capable of a lot of damage) but the devs thought it was too strong.

I agree it needed to be toned down, but they nerfed it so hard no one uses it at all anymore. Keeping in mind that their is almost no other really good “zerg” build for Mesmer you would thing that it would speak volumes to the developers that mesmers prefer taking solo oriented specs into zergs than the aoe glamour builds, lol.

Oh and yah it was never good in PvE.

There are however a select few instances where Confusion will make your eyes teary from the insane damage you see. One such place is the end boss of the sub-zero fractal. Load him up with confusion before he ports up onto the ledge and he’ll suffer 12-20 ticks of damage.

Much much more awesome is the second phase of the three-headed wurm. I’d argue having enough Confusion-gives for 25 stacks up permanently is a requirement to make P2 more bearable. So 2-3 condi mesmers and maybe a condi engi or two. It seems every single animation the wurm heads do is actually an ability, so they’ll trigger confusion constantly.

But sadly these cases are rare.
