Just because everyone seems to think they are OP (which they aren’t) doesn’t mean something like this shouldn’t be fixed…
What’s the point in having identical copies of yourself to confuse the enemy (the point of the class, btw) if you can mark the real one and totally ignore them?
Bulblax whatever, gw2 guru most people said mesmer was the best 1 v 1 class, you can blink and it removes the target. You guys have no reason to cry and are considered the best duelist class in the game by a majority. You need nothing else what can a mesmer not do?
He has a point. Mesmers are Illusionists. This completely destroys that. I mean its already screwed because its so easy to tell the difference but this just makes things worse.
Imo they need to make the clones/phastasms copy your character completely and have added movement other than just brainlessly following the target. Also I think the star shows up as well as commander status on the mesmer which further ruins things.
My main is a mesmer, I love my mesmer, and yes, we are one of the best duelists in the game. We are not weak, we have alot of suport skills and one of the most OP skills in the game. (Portal Entre)
Yet, I believe this bug should be fixed. Because it’s a bug, it’s annoying and defeats part of the class’ mechanics.
You guys come here and laugh when someone says something on mesmers should be fixed. We have bugs remaining, just as every other class. The OP isn’t asking for a buff, he’s asking for a fix on something that he believes that should be fixed.
And I also agree with Rio’s words.
Honestly … HS-spamming thieves … sorry: rogues …. doesn’t give me any headache, but it is disturbing how much bad players can accomplish with that class. Sure I can beat almost anything that comes my way, but I only get kills on rogues if they have a death wish.
Try keeping target on a thief? I wonder what they would feel, if a mark would follow them through their beloved stealth. I would personally love that. As it is now, if you go in a random spvp you end up with something like 8-10 thieves (well, I do at least).
And yes: I agree with Rio as well … not because we are UP, but because I don’t feel it makes sense otherwise (with scatter it the current state and clones low hp).

When someone says: “Guru says it is the best 1vs1”, I am going to say the obvious: Who says? Be precise please and elaborate … unqualified blabber claiming superiority by referring to anonymous “gods” is as relevant as Bieber.
Even better: Referring to “the majority” … seriously: Are the masses always right? Who are these who qualify as “the majority” … the butthurt without opposable thumbs?

I didn’t say that Mesmers are bad. I didn’t say that other classes don’t need the right attention from DEVs. I didn’t say give more power to Mesmers.
I only said that Mesmers need some attention for fixing these SIMPLE (animation based) issues. It is NOT a BALANCE issue. I thought I made myself clear.

I totally understand why people want this to change. This really diminishes the mechanic the profession was based on. However, take clones out and replace them with essentially moving turrets. The class is fundamentally still the same, just the function is slightly different and it’d still work. Why? because Mesmers even without needing to trick people still somewhat force others to pop clones/phantasms. Additionally, it’s the most mobile caster in the game and kiting as one is not hard at all.
Mesmers were supposed to redirect damage to their clones through the use of visual confusion, it doesn’t play out like that in reality cause of Ctrl + T. However, they’re still very capable despite this. No other class is trying to redirect damage to other targets but have less mobility skills anyway.
I would say, Mesmer -should- be fixed so that all clone-producing skills clear a Ctrl+T targeting off of the player.
I get that it infuriates other players to not always get the Mesmer on the first attack, but that’s our class. If we had non-combat mechanics that straight up nullified other classes core combat mechanics and styles, they would be fixed.

I concur. This core mechanic should work properly. If that means rebalancing by adjusting other mechanics, then so be it.

Btw, I think my iSwordsman should use Omnislash, and iMage should use Ultima. This would improve Mesmer balance. Also, Clones should copy my stealth, so when I stealth, my Clones stealth. I should then be able to re-absorb the Clones, replenishing my health and absorbing their knowledge and experience, extending my stealth further. Also, change Mass Invis to a new Elite which summons 50 clones. Call it “Kage Bunshin no Juutsu”. That way Shatters will be balanced, too.

Definitely a good idea, but then dodge-roll clones would be a bit too much. Does blink clear target? We also have a stealth drop, but it’s not that great other than getting off a Moa if you run that and confusing targets.
Stealth also gives you a free time to cast a heal uninhibited. You can also begin casting any offensive ability while stealthed. So typically heal+cast while stealthed.
Yeah, you’re definitely right. Heal and Moa I see have a benefit from the stealth skill. I guess I’d probably run it as a target drop and free cast if I had Moa instead of Time Warp, but Time Warp makes my downstairs mixup moist.
Dw man, when you figure out that your phantasms can kill someone whilst your stealthed and do more damage than a player, your life will drastically improve.
Are people really so upset that Mesmer has a noob stomping build that they don’t want a UI bug fixed? Can we get UI additions to counteract Warriors 100b builds then? Or Thief heart seeker? Maybe giant red letters across the screen reminding you how to dodge or that condition removal is to be used when you are immobilized. Oh and a giant do not hit sign should appear above people with retaliation.
Lets put it this way, I have not seen a single person put up a target on a non mesmer since this was discovered back in beta. Arenet put in a UI feature for people to be able to focus fire enemies without that pesky team work requirement or being skilled and it is not being used for that purpose at all.

Lol really, being able to ctrl + t a mesmer really screws up the whole point of them having clone skills. IMO the way Mesmer is OP in PvP is in a 1v1 fight, and if you find yourself in many of those, you or your team are doing something wrong. As the numbers get higher, whether they stay even or not, Mesmer really seems to scale downwards. It’s much easier to burst them down with multiple players if you catch them at all. And until there is a rated PvP type for 1v1 matches, who gives what the best dueling class is? It doesn’t mean anything at all.
