Is mesmer being tossed aside ?
The problem is less simple than you – or us as a whole – make it appear, though. If they were to fix all my traits, I’d have such a huge surge in power I’d need at least twice as many nerfs again as I’m getting fixes.
So I can understand it’s really not a simply thing for them to do. Annoying as it is – Vengeful Images <-> Phantasmal Healing is still bugged. -.-

I agree, the issue is that they’re going about fixing mesmer by increasing cooldowns and lowering attack rates. This just makes the class less fun to play, I’m having more fun as an elementalist because i don’t feel like i’m constantly sitting around waiting for cooldowns. I know it’s not easy to fix mesmer as it stands, but the way they’re going about is killing the class even more for PvE.

You miss the point here.
They keep nerfing skills based on broken traits……
Fix whats broken, then run it for a month or two then adjust when you have a correct reflection of the class in its correct state.
You simply do not adjust skills on broken mechanics.
Sounds to me like I joined playing as a Mesmer after some kind of major nerf to the class. It makes it easier for me to ignore what disappointments have come before because I haven’t experienced them. But I still don’t have any trouble running any sort of PvE build so far, and that’s what counts. Now it looks as though Illusions have been adjusted, and now they must be cast in LoS, and the recharge on Portal has been increased… but none of this has affected me in PvE. I don’t think the Mesmer is being nerfed as a whole, rather the PvP Mesmer is being adjusted… the one that some claim is overpowered, broken and unkillable against some classes. I think THIS is the version of the Mesmer they’re trying to get right.
I have faith in ANET that they’ll get the balance right eventually. They obviously just cant do it on short notice..

They also apparently can’t do it on any type of notice dating back to early beta or public launch. It’s nice that they’re trying to fix the version of Mesmer which people QQ over (hey have they fixed the version of thief that people QQ over?), but there’s also a sizable portion of people who are QQing over the PvE Mesmer, and the WvW Mesmer.
So now in small scale PvP, Mesmers can’t hide hide behind a wall and toss out iZerker. That’s great, really. I also think that tossing out an attack of moderate damage which can be dodged easily and destroyed by a stiff breeze should be done from a location that obeys LoS.
Legitimately? That’s great.
So where does this leave WvW Mesmer? we have Chaos Storm, which is an absurdly low ticking AoE that deals extremely -low- condition damage and was nerfed several patches back. We have Mind Stab which has a shorter range in diameter than a D/D Elementalist has in full attack range – Meaning we can just -barely- get that thing up on the lip of a wall.
and we have… what. This compared to the elementalist raining down AoEs, the thieve’s shortbow blasting out explosives and poisons, the engineers grenades, the rangers arrow rain, the necromancers wells.
Even guardians and warriors have legitimate siege applications – Guardians can barrier to help defend attacking forces and pull in conditions. Warriors have banners to keep AoE swiftness up among with other things.
Where in “the undefeatable sPvP version of Mesmer they’re trying to fix” does that leave us in this entire section of the game which revolves around sieging? We have a single utility on a long CD that cleanses conditions (guardians and necros do this better), and we have a single utility that reflects projectiles (guardians do this better again, and multiple professions have a similar skill on shorter cooldowns)
I’ve already pointed out the offensive comparison.
So really, it’s nice they’re ‘fixing’ sPvP Mesmer. I can guarantee this patch didn’t actually change the majority of Mesmer sPvP QQ reasons, but hey – it’s a fix!
Now when do we get to see them “fix” the WvW Mesmer?
As someone who mostly pve’s I can honestly say yes. We’ve been one of the worst in pve since launch and have had nothing but nerfs for some reason. Thankfully my warrior is lvl 52 now and lvling very very fast. My warrior alt runs into as many enemies as he wants and I push “1” and they all die. I expected many pve buffs this patch for my mesmer and many pve nerfs for my warrior…….
“Being”, probably wrong tense, more like “been”.
Mesmers are similar to the to WoW palladin. Paladin’s usually never got buffed for balanced. Instead it was nerf after nerf. Only when expansions came out which brought along massive game play changes did Palladins see anything improved… only to be nerfed weeks later.
Mesmers feel like the new Nerf class. Unfortunatally this as time goes buy leaves only a single viable build for a situation.
Solo PvE single build type
Group PvE support
WvW something else
Little flexibility.
Yeah I think Anet is listening to the vocal minority rather than performance metrics.
