Is the Mesmer Torch bugged?
What do you mean exactly? Both abilities seem to do what they say. It’d be preferable if the stealth wasn’t a channel, but that doesn’t necessarily make it bugged.
The stealth is a channel because you attack after it’s done.
Would be better if it wasn’t a channel though.
I have noticed that the torch #4 ability stealth can be interrupted before channeling is complete, resetting the cooldown to ~4 seconds instead of the normal, longer cooldown. This makes my Mesmer kinda thief like in that I can stealth very often for short bursts.
Intentional, or bug?
I’ve noticed it too. With good timing you can blind and burn without triggering the base 30s cooldown.
I would put forward the idea that anyone intentionally doing that would be exploiting a bug in the coding. A small bug but a bug nonetheless.
The stealth skill does seem to be bugged, yes.
And when you trait for Illusions IX you get an AE blind + confusion + (maybe) burn + combo finisher: blast every four seconds. That’s great, but won’t be here for long i guess.

This. I’m not sure if it is intentional or a bug. With how incredibly weak the torch #5 is (iMage), I can believe if this is as-designed. However, I’d like a dev to state one way or the other.
I think it’s pretty obviously a bug where you get most or all of the effect of a skill while bypassing 80%+ of its cooldown.
The problem is with the code on “canceling” a channelled spell. When you interrupt a spell it gets a shorter cooldown. That shouldn’t be applying to this skill.
Is there a reason they added a channel mechanic to it anyways? I had thought it used to just be a stealth.
It seems like ANet could simply remove the channel mechanic from the ability and make it:
1. AOE Burn
2. 3s Stealth
3. Blind after 3 seconds (e.g. not directly tied to stealth de-activation, just make the AOE Blind happen at 3.0s).
